Don't expect sparkly leotards, red-nosed clowns or big top-style routines in Catch Me. The troupe, comprised of five men and one woman, has a cool, hipster-y look, and the performers wow you with their incredible feats and athletic prowess. Their strength and agility really shine through in each of the 13 acts, especially when you consider they don't use mats, springboards or any other aids. 

Catch Me is packed with traditional circus acts, like diabolo and juggling mixed with the troupe's own unique twist—creating a special show unlike any you have seen before. Beyond the magnificent feats of skill, Catch Me's overarching theme is friendship (not surprising from a troupe created by friends). The show has a subtle storyline about a group of long-lost pals reuniting after a decade apart. It reminded me of a summer camp reunion, complete with Popsicles and sleeping bags.

The show is lighthearted and, at times, even silly. We especially loved the "Red Ball" routine where the group danced and juggled giant, red exercise balls to Barry Manilow's "Copacabana." The energy and friendship of the performers spill out into the seats, and it is hard not to have a great time. Catch Me is a serious circus show that doesn't take itself too seriously.

The troupe's skills are spot-on and while each act entertained, my favorite was the energetic aerial strap routine. It was cool to see the performers swing out on the straps over the edge of the stage. Both my son and I loved the gravity-defying trampowall finale when the performers leaped on to the trampoline from the top of the blue striped wall; after touchdown, they returned to the wall in a variety of cool ways, sometimes even walking up the wall. We wished we could give that trampowall a try after the show!

Catch Me is recommended for children ages 5 and up. With a running time of just 75 minutes, it's a great show for all ages. Catch a performance now through April 19 with special matinee performances for spring break at the New Victory Theater, 209 West 42nd Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues. Tickets are $15-$38.
