March brings us an abundance of opportunities to celebrate our love of books! Schools, libraries, and families across Long Island have kicked off the month by celebrating both the 108th birthday of Dr. Seuss and Read Across America Day. The celebration continues on into next week with some very special book-centered events. Check out these free or cheap activities sure to engage your little bookworm!

Tuesday, March 6th
Author Peter Lerangis will be making two appearances on Long Island on Tuesday to celebrate the release of his new book The 39 Clues: Cahills vs Vespers: Dead of Night.

Wednesday, March 7th

Author and Olympian Kristi Yamaguchi reads at Book Revue
313 New York Ave, Huntington

Kids will have the opportunity to hear Olympic champion Kristi Yamaguchi read from her new book, It’s a Big World, Little Pig . There’s nothing like having an Olympic gold medalist satisfy the kids' school’s requirement of 20 minutes of nightly partner reading!

$3 per person

Children ages 3 to 5 will have the opportunity to hear local author Michelle Zimmerman read Can’t Catch a Butterfly. After the reading, kids a will enjoy a cup of cocoa and a craft. This series runs every Wednesday through the end of March. Upcoming authors include Tracey Delio on March 14th, Joyce Zucker on March 21, and illustrator Anna Fallai on March 28th. (While in Stony Brook, hop across the street for a nature walk through Avalon Park. Kids will surely sleep well that night after a walk through the beautiful nature preserve.)

Fancy Nancy Storytime and Mermaid Party
