Weekday Event Picks for LA Kids: Cheap Coffee, Free Pancakes, & Dr. Seuss, March 2-6

3/2/15 - By Jacqueline Stansbury

A new month is upon us, which means free days at museums and other venues this week. And if it’s Tuesday, it must be time for the free LEGO monthly model build. Eat well and do good with free pancakes at IHOP’s hospital fundraiser. Wash them down with a half priced cup of coffee from Peet’s, available any day after noon through March 11. And while there are several fun things to do listed here, don’t forget to check our event calendar for even more.

3. IKAR Purim Carnival – Wednesday
Purim is kind of like Jewish Mardi Gras, and next weekend LA is alive with Purim carnivals. The actual holiday falls mid-week, though, so a couple of places are throwing their parties on Wednesday. The IKAR kids' carnival is free and followed by a retelling of the story behind the holiday.

4. Free Day at the Huntington – Thursday
The Huntington is a perfect museum for kids. While the galleries are perhaps a bit stuffy for the youngsters, they usually enjoy a glance at Pinkie and the Blue Boy. Meanwhile, the grounds, including a fairly new interactive children’s garden, are a great place to frolic. Free tickets must be reserved in advance.

5. Abilities Expo – Friday
Designed for both adults and kids with disabilities, this is a great place to see the limitless possibilities for those who may at first appear to have limitations. The event includes appropriate art and physical activities as well as workshops on service dogs and apps for special needs students.
