Spring and Summer Sporting Events in CT
Having sat through 3 soccer games and 2 lacrosse games today (just a regular Saturday around here!), it seems only fitting that I sit down now to write about…athletic events! Now, my kids didn’t catch the sports bug super early. Nope, mine were the kids picking daisies in the midst of the kindergarten soccer field as the ball sailed right past them.
But this year, in 4th grade, my eldest has suddenly become sports obsessed. And she’s not only obsessed with playing sports – she loves following them too. Need Red Sox scores? She’s got ‘em. Want to know if Chelsea beat Man U? Look no further. And as much as I love the Sox and Chelsea, Boston and London aren’t always so easy to get to, so we’ve found some local sports events to frequent. New Haven Open at Yale, New Haven, CT: Marion Bartoli and Petra Kvitova are amongst the top ranked pro tennis players who are playing in this year’s New Haven Cup which runs from August 16-24, 2013. Traveler’s Championship, Cromwell, CT: Starting June 17th and running through the 23rd, the PGA’s Traveler’s Championship will take place in Cromwell, CT. Bubba Watson, Lee Westwood, and Rickie Fowler are amongst the Professional golfers participating. Greenwich Polo Club, Greenwich, CT: Head to the Greenwich Polo Club on Sundays in June, July and September to enjoy picnics and polo matches. And whenever your thinking about checking out some great sports in CT, be sure to check the schedules of local college teams. The Yale lacrosse teams, UConn Basketball teams, and Fairfield soccer teams are consistently ranked amongst the top teams in their divisions, and are well worth going to see. Go Connecticut!
