Queens Restaurant with a Playroom: BCD Tofu House
Finding family-friendly restaurants in New York City is as easy as boiling an egg—there are a ton of them. But a restaurant where kids can actually run around and play? Now that's a tall order. In the past, we've written about a few NYC eateries with play spaces, and recently my family and I came across another one: BCD Tofu House in Queens.
Part of an international chain, the Bayside BCD Tofu House serves up yummy Korean cuisine and also has a cute playroom for kids with toys and equipment, even a rock-climbing wall. It's the only restaurant I know of in my home borough that has a place for kids to play, besides fast-food chains, and of course the food is much better. My family and I recently visited BCD Tofu House and a good time was had by all: preschoolers and grown-ups alike.

As soon as we stepped inside BCD Tofu House, my older daughter spotted the playroom and she was off! My toddler wasn't that far behind. The socks-only space is modest but there are lots of fun things to do like conquer the rock-climbing wall, play with the wall-mounted toys, swoosh down the slide and romp at the train table. There's also a TV tuned to kids' shows. My children really enjoyed themselves while we waited for our friends to arrive, and they continued playing until the food came. The restaurant staff didn't seem to mind that they went to the playroom before we were even seated.
The food is great, too. The menu features Korean staples like kimchi with beef or pork, and bulgogi and bibimbap dishes. My kids liked the appetizers such as dumplings the best. The restaurant is big with plenty of booth-style seating, which is great for kids.
There are a few important things to know about the playroom before you go:
- Kids must be supervised at all times If you don't want to go into the room, you can keep an eye on them through the TV monitor outside. I'm glad we went with a group, so parents could rotate child-watching duties.
- The playroom is a bit drafty in the winter The kids didn't seem to mind but it's best to dress them in layers.
- If possible, go on a weekday We went on a weekend evening and while the playroom wasn't too crowded there were definitely kids in there most of the time. On weekdays and early on the weekends your kids will probably have the place to themselves.
- There's no playroom at the Midtown Manhattan location Though I hear the food there is delicious, too.
BCD Tofu House is located at 220-05 Northern Boulevard between 220th Street and 220th Place in Bayside, Queens. The playroom has the same open hours as the restaurant: 10:30am-10:30pm.
