When to Go to Acadia National Park

The best time to visit Acadia is from late spring to early fall, usually between May and October. If you’re all about sunny days, beach picnics, and longer hikes, July and August are prime—but be prepared for the crowds. Looking for something a bit quieter? Late June or early September offers milder weather and fewer visitors, so you can enjoy the beauty of Acadia without the hustle and bustle.

And if you want to catch a glimpse of seals, birds, or even moose? Spring and fall are your best bets for spotting wildlife. Keep those binoculars handy!

Where to Stay in Arcdia National Park

Finding the right place to stay is a key part of your trip. Here are three family-friendly options that’ll make everyone happy—yes, even the grown-ups!

Bonus: you’re just minutes away from Acadia National Park.

Airbnb in Bar Harbor

If you’re after a homey vibe, staying in an Airbnb is a solid choice. There are tons of family-friendly rentals, and many come with kitchens (hello, easy snacks!) and backyards where the kids can run around after a long day of adventures. Look for places near downtown Bar Harbor so you’re close to restaurants and the Island Explorer shuttle.

Getting Around Acadia National Park

Navigating Acadia with kids? No problem! The Island Explorer Shuttle is a lifesaver—free, eco-friendly, and with no parking stress. The shuttle makes stops at key spots like Sand Beach, Jordan Pond, and Cadillac Mountain, so you can get around easily without having to search for a parking space (which, let’s be real, is a win in itself).

If your family’s into biking, consider renting bikes in Bar Harbor and cruising along Acadia’s famous carriage roads. These scenic, car-free paths are perfect for a leisurely ride, especially with little ones.
