Squeeze out those last bits of summer: Spend this weekend relaxing at a nature center and learning about dragonflies and damselflies, hanging out at the farm picking peaches and raspberries, enjoying some kid-friendly horse races, or spending the afternoon like a kid in 1890 at an old working mill playing games and sailing toy boats.

Find out all about Dragonflies and Damselflies, among the oldest of insects at Flat Rock Brook Nature Center. This program takes place Sunday from 3:30 to 5pm and costs $8 for non-members (advance registration required). Make it a day trip! There are lots of fun trials to explore, an interpretive center full of live and stuffed animals as well as toys such as building blocks out of twigs and tree stumps. Best of all is the fabulous playground located just a short walk from the interpretive center. Bring a picnic!
Peaches and Raspberries at Alstede Farms (Chester, NJ)
Did you know it is peach picking season? Make a day of peach picking and visiting the farm! Alstede farm has animals you can pet and feed, pony rides, hay rides, a corn house (like a sand box but with corn instead of sand), a bouncy, picnic tables, food and more! You may even be able to pick raspberries while you are at it!
annual crab cake cook-off and Sunday also happens to be their free winter hat giveaway day (just in case you aren't hot enough)!
Music and Toy Sailboats at Cooper Grist Mill (Morris, NJ)
It is a great weekend to visit Cooper Grist Mill, a real working mill that was built in 1826. On Saturday it is 1890s Music Day with old fashioned games and stick puppets. On Sunday kids can assemble and decorate their own mini sailboats to race at the mill (boats can be purchased for $7 or you can borrow one from the mill). And don't forget the fun of seeing how the water turns the mill's wheels!
