We’ve got some fun events to kick off your first weekend in August! Take part in storm exploring, see King Arthur acting silly or try some authentic Irish soda bread. Whatever you choose we want you to have an amazing weekend! Read on for our round up of fun, and don't forget to keep in mind the Summer Fairs and Festivals on Long Island, including the 32nd Annual Sayville Summerfest, which happens this weekend.

See art like you’ve never seen it before, it 3D! Bring your family to the Nassau County Museum of Art this weekend to tour one of the largest sculpture parks in the Northeast. While on the tour, you will go on a fun adventure to find materials that you can use to create you own 3D sculpture. Register in Advance.

Witness beach architecture at its finest at the East Hampton Sandcastle Contest. See teams compete to create intricate sandcastles or bring your team a be a part of the festivities! Teams can be up to six people and there are five categories for teams who wish to enter.

Hear ye! Hear ye! Come to Theatre Three Productions this weekend for the hilarious children’s musical King Arthur’s Krazy West! This musical is a modern twist on the timeless story of King Arthur and the characters of the Round Table.

Learn all about Caterpillars this Saturday at the South Fork Natural History Museum and Nature Center. In this workshop, you will discover the many different kinds of caterpillars and where to look for them. You’ll understand why caterpillars eat what they do and what helps them turn into a butterfly. At the end of the program, you’ll create your own caterpillar to take home with you! Reserve today, spaces are limited!

Learn all about how the mystery and fun of forensics this weekend at the Children’s Maritime Museum! Create your own magnifiers to see objects closer, design a pictures using your fingerprints and count drops of water to help solve mysteries.

Come and relive the days of old! The Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce invites families down to Harborfront Park to Cruise the Sound from 5pm-7:30pm on a live banjo cruise on Saturday, and participate in old fashion games and fun on Sunday. Games include old fashion kite flying, 3 legged races, potato races and so much more. This festival is the 100th anniversary of a 1911 festival called Old Home Week held in Port Jefferson.
