Weekend Fun for LI Kids: Holiday Lights, Turkey Talk, Family Night Hike, November 21-22
Let's talk turkey! With Thanksgiving next week, there's plenty of crafting opportunities to enjoy. Participate in Turkey Talk at the Long Island Children's Museum, Turkey/Pumpkin Mommy & Me at As You Wish in Bellmore or drop your children off for a Kids Paint Night at Key to My Art in Amityville.
And with the winter weather still holding off a bit, enjoy a Family Autumn Night Hike at the Sherwood-Jayne Farm. The Holiday Lights Spectacular at Jones Beach also kicks off this weekend.

Holiday Lights Spectacular –Wantagh. At Jones Beach, this drive-through holiday light show features more than 150 displays, hot beverages, snacks and make your own s’mores. Multiple dates; check for closed dates in the event description.
The Little Mermaid – Smithtown. At Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts, this is a live theatrical production.
Animal Tracks at The Maritime Explorium – Port Jefferson. At The Maritime Explorium, discover the prints of various animals that leave their tracks as they gather food for the winter. Create your own prints as you create their natural habitats.
Princess Frog - A Musical Fairy Tale – Garden City. At the Long Island Children's Museum, mix three wild boys, who happen to be princes, one frustrated (Queen) mother, three magic rocks and an enchanted frog and you have the makings of a modern fairy tale.
You're a Good Man Charlie Brown: The Broadway Musical – Bellmore. At the Bellmore Movies at the Showplace, this is a live performance. Sunday also.
Saturday, November 21
Search and Find Scavenger Hunt for Kids – Hicksville. At Ikea, there’s a list of photos of products your kids can find while you shop. One winner will be notified at a later date. Free.
Art & Play Family Saturdays – Oyster Bay. At Not Just Art, families can enjoy creative playtime, easel painting, weekly project.
Holiday Mega Princess Tea – Amityville. At Darlings & Divas, each girl will receive a sparkling mini-manicure, glittering makeup application, hairstyle with tiara, and glitter tattoo. Pizza and dessert will be served. The mini princesses will each have an opportunity to meet and greet the princesses and take a picture with them on their stage, which they will print for you to take home.
Katharine Holabird Returns to CMEE – Bridgehampton. This children’s author is visiting Children's Museum of the East End. She has created the Angelina Ballerina and Twinkle series of books.
Turkey Talk – Garden City. At the Long Island Children's Museum, join the museum for a humorous spin on the traditional Thanksgiving turkey.
Family Autumn Night Hike – Setuaket. Use your owl eyes to see, fox walk to sneak, and deer ears to hear at Sherwood-Jayne Farm.
Santa's Arrival/Tree Lighting Ceremony – Hicksville. The Broadway Mall will be hosting its first ever Tree Lighting Ceremony this year. The first 300 kids to arrive will receive a magic wand to help light the tree. Enjoy milk and cookies with Santa following the ceremony.
Sunday, November 22
Sunday Science – Rockville Center. The Center for Science Teaching & Learning is offering Sunday Science, a new a drop-off program designed to further engage your child with scientific topics outside of the classroom.
I Love Chocolate Fest – Old Bethpage. At the Old Bethpage Village Restoration, satisfy your chocolate cravings.
Turkey/Pumpkin Mommy & Me Painting – Bellmore. At As You Wish, you and your child(ren) can paint a canvas for Thanksgiving decoration. Includes supplies, instruction, bagels, juice and party games.
Festival of Thanks and Giving – Wantagh. At Kidville Wantagh, this includes gym time, art table, music sing-along and instrument and morning snack. Free to attend, donations to JAFCO are encouraged.
Kids Paint Night - Thanksgiving Theme! – Amityville. It’s a drop- off paint night event at Key to My Art. Includes canvas, paint, supplies and instruction, plus a Thanksgiving goody bag.
