I decided that for my daughter’s 6th birthday last year, I would plan and run an Alice in Wonderland-themed party. I got ideas and recipes from the internet, and proceeded to make all the food, decorations and games. It was SO much work, and frankly, no one even ate those heart shaped tea sandwiches. The stress of getting everything served and keeping everyone entertained was overwhelming and I spent over $600 dollars for a 2 hour whirlwind. While I do believe the kids had fun, it about killed me.

This year, however, I was lucky enough to have Busy Mom Party Planning run my daughter’s 7th birthday party. Samantha chose a “Shake It Up” theme, based on the Disney channel show. Jen Anderson was able to come up with a variety of choices for crafts, and tailored the decorations around the characters in the show. She even personalized some of the decorations with Samantha’s pictures (a HUGE hit with my daughter). As a craft, the girls decorated fingerless gloves (apparently a stylish choice!) with beads and glitter. There was enough of a variety of styles for all the girls to be happy and to create a unique “favor”.

Jen also had fun hair accessories that she and her assistant wove into the girls’ hair as they worked on the craft. All the guests were engaged and busy and it made the time fly by! As the girls were crafting, I was able to sit back and chat with the other moms and just enjoy the fun. It was so much less stressful than last year’s party and I didn’t feel the need to control or oversee anything because Jen and her assistant were able to take care of everything. I chose to do the food and cake, but Jen could have certainly done that as well.
