Philly Playgroups to Beat the Winter Blues

Winter months can be tough on the whole family. When it's too cold and blustery to play outside, what do you do? Local playgroups are a great way to get everyone out of the house. Kids will love making new friends and playing with new toys, and you'll love staying warm and chatting with other adults. A playgroup can be an essential part of any stay-at-home parents life year-round, so check out these great places and see if there's one near you.

Lilypad Playgroup- South Philly
This new group in South Philadelphia offers playgroups for all ages- including a weekend playgroup. The schedule includes weekend and weekday playgroups for all ages, a baby playgroup (6-18 months), a new mom meet-up (0-8 months), an all ages happy hour playgroup, as well as some parent night out options, and fun classes. Membership costs $100 per family for a whole year and you can attend any playgroup or parent night out free. You can even send grandma or a nanny with your kids.

Swarthmore Community Center Playgroup- Swarthmore
This playgroup meets on Wednesday mornings 9:30-11 at the Swarthmore Community Center October-May. Be sure to check the schedule on their Facebook page as they don't meet every Wednesday. Drop-in rate is $5.

Main Line Moms- Wayne
This meet-up group for stay-at-home moms on the Main Line offers a variety of fun activities where you can meet and hang out with other families. This one even offers some moms only events.

Springfield Playgroup- Springfield Township
This playgroup in Montgomery County offers a story time play group every Monday at 10AM at the Free Library of Springfield and free play every Thursday at 9:30AM. To participate in playgroup, you must RSVP on Facebook before attending because space may be limited.

Philly Art Center Story Playgroup- Cherry Hill, Fairmount, Queen Village
Visit Philly Art Center every Thursday from 10:30-11:30AM September-May for a story playgroup for ages 0-2. This drop-in playgroup features a story, sensory stations, and more for kids to enjoy. Drop-in fee is $5.

MOMS Club- Various
If you have a local branch of MOMS Club near you, this is a great way to meet new people and get out of the house. Activities include fun daytime playgroups and story times for the kids as well as evening events just for moms. To find your local chapter, check meetup, or inquire through the MOMS Club website. Most require a yearly membership fee.

Working Moms of Lower Montco- Norristown
If you're a working mom who still wants to get out of the house in her free time and meet new folks, this is a great group for you. With weekend activities for the kids and a few evening events for moms, it's perfect for those work full-time, part-time and anywhere in between.

Delco Moms Connection- Springfield
This group offers breakfast club at Dunkin Donuts, play dates for kids (some on weekends), and some meetings just for adults. A yearly membership fee is required.

Buxmont Playgroup- Warrington
This monthly playgroup meets at Buxmont Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Warrington. Open to the public, it meets on the first Monday of every month at 10AM. In between, the group also ocassionaly hosts additional get togethers at parks and other locations throughout the area.
