This Program Meets Kids at Eye Level to Help Learning Take Off
We love the philosophy behind Eye Level: that successful learning happens at the eye level of the child. The example of an elementary school teacher who kneels down in front of paintings at a gallery the day before bringing his students to an exhibit, to make sure he sees the work the way they will, is the type of engaged teaching we all want for our children. Maybe that's why more than two and a half million children have participated in Eye Level's individualized supplemental math and English program across the globe. With fifteen locations in New York and 216 locations nationwide, more local families are discovering the confidence and self-directed learning habits that Eye Level programs can provide.
Eye Level's highly specialized curriculum is also designed to be tailored to each individual kid and uses a small-step learning approach paired with appropriate goals, so that students feel continued success week after week. There's plenty of time and space to master material before moving on to the next topic, which minimizes the frustration that comes with unpreparedness, and students are constantly challenged to apply learned skills to new concepts. Instructors have noted that when children begin the program, they are usually quick to ask for help tackling the questions they're given, but by the end, they have the confidence to brave obstacles head on, by applying what they've already learned. And that really comes in handy when your kid's homework is so hard that you actually don't know how to help.
The much-loved program originated in Korea forty years ago and, while much of the curriculum has stood the test of time, Eye Level is constantly evolving to meet the ever-changing children's education standards. In fact, just last year a newly-revised English program was launched with updated reading comprehension strategies, vocabulary aligned with school expectations, and an integrated writing program. And just recently, Eye Level introduced new Math Word Problem Booklets, which provide more targeted practice and break down the process of solving word problems—something schools are putting a heavy focus on these days.
Starting to wonder if a supplemental program might be just what your kid needs to seriously soar in school? Eye Level accepts children ages three to sixteen at all fifteen of its New York locations (and beyond), and most students attend the center once or twice a week, depending on how many subjects they're enrolled in. Typically, a student will spend one hour a week on math and one hour a week on English, and then be given work to complete before the next class session. These at-home assignments help build students' study habits, further encouraging them to take their education into their own hands. Oh, and in addition to the courses available throughout the school year, Eye Level Learning Centers offer fun educational programs all summer long to help students avoid the much-dreaded vacation brain drain.
