Weekend Events for Kids in NJ, September 25-27: Free Museum Admission, Heroes Day, Family Harvest Festival, and Cider Making
New York's museums are not the only ones that are discounted this weekend or that have great offerings! Liberty Science Center has their annual Heroes Day and offers reduced admission, the Newark Museum is free, and a free fall festival with hayrides and crafts is all you need to inspire you to visit the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms. Not enough fall festivities? Take the kids apple picking and then turn your apples into apple cider at Tenafly Nature Center. There is enough to keep everyone busy this weekend...

Liberty Science Center's Heroes Day (Jersey City, NJ)
The Liberty Science Center's Second Annual Heroes Day is on Saturday from 9am to 5pm. Kids can climb on a fire truck, sit in a police car, put on military clothes, and tour an emergency medical van among many of the hands on activities. Even better, there are some $3 off admission coupons floating around out there.
Smithsonian Museum Day
The great thing about Smithsonian Museum Day is that it is a national event and that means it includes plenty of great museums in New Jersey. Places where you can go for free include: The Newark Museum,The Montclair Art Museum, and the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms in Morris Plains, among others. Just download the free museum day admission card before you go!
Fall Family Harvest Day at the Stickley Museum (Morris Plains, NJ)
There is nothing better than a harvest festival to get acquainted with this national monument and historical farm (especially when you plan to go for free with your Smithsonian museum day admission card!). On Saturday there will be hayrides, square dancers, cider pressing, embroidering and quilting demonstrations and activities for the kids like pumpkin painting, balloon cows, and old style carnival games.
Apple Cider Making at Tenafly Nature Center (Tenafly, NJ)
You've done your apple picking for the season, but what about making apple cider? On Sunday Tenafly Nature Center is bringing out their apple cider press so kids can learn all about the art of apple cider making and how to make apple cider from scratch. Bring extra apples!
