Best Roller Skating on Long Island for Families
Roller skating is an activity accessible to most ages, even toddlers, and Long Island has some great rinks for the whole family to enjoy.
We've divided up our list below of top roller skating rinks into indoor and outdoor options. Indoor options tend to be particularly good for first-timers, and most rent skates. Indoor Roller Skating Rinks on Long Island
1. GDC Roller Rink - Greenport
GDC Roller Rink wants all skaters to have a great time, offering FREE skate rentals with admission, as well as FREE training for beginners. Rollerbladers are welcome, and there is a concession stand with fries, hot dogs, pizza, and snacks. Two-hour party rentals are very affordable and can include up to 30 people, though they doesn't include food. Check the website for the latest skate session schedule.
2. Gr8 Skates - Shirley
Currently, open skate sessions are offered on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Tuesdays are buy one admission, get one FREE. Renting skates adds an additional fee to admission. Birthday parties are available and include 2 hours of party time and skate rental.
3. United Skates of America - Seaford
No skates? No problem. United Skates offers skate rentals that include wrist guards. New skaters can also rent a skate mate, which comes in different sizes, to help them balance. In addition to special glow skating sessions, United Skates has different events throughout the year, such as an Easter Bunny skate, a Santa skate, and skates with famous cartoon characters. Take a break from skating and hit up the small arcade. Food like pizza and fries are available for purchase. Birthday party packages include 2 hours of party time and a trip to the DJ booth for the special birthday child.
Outdoor Roller Skating Rinks on Long Island
4. Armory Park - Nesconset
This outdoor roller rink is located behind the Smithtown Library. Free skate around the hockey rink at your leisure. In the summer there is also a spray park perfect for toddlers, preschoolers, and young kids.
5. Brady Park - Smithtown
Brady Park's hockey rink is open for roller skaters and bladers as well as hockey players. Children can also play on the playground or basketball court. Picnic areas make it easy to pack a lunch and rest up a bit before hitting the rink again.
6. Cedar Creek Park - Seaford
At the south end of the park is the concrete rink. Park by the playground and walk or roll over to the rink. Hockey playing is discouraged, though it isn't enforced. In the warmer months, ice cream trucks usually set up shop right outside the rink, making for a cool treat.
7. Riverhead Skate Park - Riverhead
In order to enter the skate park, all skating guests must have the proper equipment; helmets, kneepads, and elbow pads. While wrist guards are recommended, they are not required. Inline skaters are welcome to skate and shred with the skateboarders and BMX riders. Beginners and young kids should skip this park. Admission is FREE for Town of Riverhead residents.
8. Wantagh Park - Wantagh
In the middle of the park, just before the dock parking lot, is the skating rink. Nestled next to a playground, this hockey rink is available for skaters to use. If the kids are looking to cool off after a skate, check out the pool on the south end of the park. There is also a mini-golf course near the entrance of the park.
