Weekday Events for NYC Kids: Free Concerts & Movies, Summer Reading Kickoff June 1-5

This week enjoy no-cost concerts by two cool local kindie bands: Rolie Polie Guacamole in Hudson River Park and Shine and the Moonbeams, which is part of the Brooklyn Public Library's Summer Reading Kickoff. You can also catch a FREE screening of the classic '80s flick Pee-wee's Big Adventure and explore the incredible outdoor installation Please Touch the Art in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Monday, June 1
Rolie Polie Guacamole at Hudson RiverKids – Tribeca
Hudson River Park kicks off its summer family performance series with funky Brooklyn rock and rollers Rolie Polie Guacamole. Get there early to enjoy Pier 25's other attractions including an awesome playground and a mini-golf course. If it rains, the concert will take place in the lobby of Pier 40 further north in the park at Houston Street. FREE

Please Touch the Art – Brooklyn Heights
Take a trip to Brooklyn Bridge Park to explore Jeppe Hein's interactive installation Please Touch the Art featuring water jets to splash in and crazy-looking benches to slide down. Can't go today? The exhibit is on view through April 2016. FREE

Paddington Screening – Upper West Side

Shine and the Moonbeams – Prospect Heights
Pubic schools are closed today so go get your groove on at a no-cost Shine and the Moonbeams concert at the central branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. It's just one of the cool activities happening today as part of the BPL's Summer Reading Kickoff. FREE
