NJ Weekend events for kids, September 19-20: Apple Fall Festival, Gardens, Sculpture and Airplanes

9/18/09 - By Desiree

It isn't quite Fall and Summer is not yet over so head outdoors and enjoy the change of seasons either picking apples and enjoying a harvest festival, browsing new gardens at the Arboretum, or at an outdoor sculpture garden. If the outdoors isn't tempting, kids can enjoy a weekend checking out real planes up close at the airport..

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

Apple Days at Terhune Orchards (Princeton, NJ) Apple Day at Terhune Orchards is much more than just apple picking (five varieties!) at this pick-your-own farm. It is a full festival with music, wagon rides, pony rides, pumpkin painting, scarecrow making, and more! Best of all, it is on all weekend long.

Family Fun at Reeves Reed Arboretum (Summit, NJ) If you are looking to take in the last bit of summer, head to the Reeves Reed Arboretum to explore their exquisite gardens and paths. Make the outing kid-friendly by participating in the Family Fun program for kids ages 3 and up which allows families to discover the gardens with hands on activities, storytime, and even a snack.

Tots on Tour at Grounds for Sculpture (Hamilton, NJ) For a different kind of outdoor experience, head out to Grounds for Sculpture, an outdoor sculpture park featuring works of art by contemporary artists. There is something to be said for "outdoor art": big artwork means lots of walking (tires out the kids in a good way) and loud voices are more easily excused. Add on a free program to entertain the kids long enough to get a glimpse of the artwork and you are set! Tots on Tour is free with admission, aimed at kids 3 to 5, and includes stories and activities related to the sculptures on display.

Wings and Wheels Expo at Aviation Hall of Fame (Teterboro Airport, NJ) If you have a fan of planes, look no further. This weekend is the Wings and Wheels Expo at the Aviation Hall of Fame at Teterboro Airport. If your child wants to see real planes up close, this is their chance!
