New Jersey Weekend October 23&24: Halloween Countdown!

Just one more week until Halloween and the ghosts and goblins are already on the loose!  This weekend you can head to Sesame Place in PA for the Count's Halloween Spooktacular event, ride a haunted train at the Camden Children's Garden Goblins in the Garden Festival, see Halloween themed shows at the Raritan Valley Planetarium, enjoy some pumpkin festivals like the one at Liberty Hall Museum, or go on a not too scary night hike through Stony Brook Watershed Tenafly Nature Preserve.  The brave can even take a boat ride through a haunted swamp!

The Count's Halloween Spooktacular at Sesame Place
(Langhorne, PA)
The Count has made Sesame Place into the perfect Halloween destination for little ones with an Un-Haunted Castle Maze, a not too spooky Howl-o-ween Radio Show, a Halloween maze, and of course Elmo!  Saturday & Sunday from 10am to 6pm.  $33 per person (get a $20 spooktacular admission discount online)

Goblins in the Garden Family Festival at Camden Children’s Garden (Camden)
The gardens have been bewitched!  There will be a haunted train ride, a haunted maze, have your fortune told, and celebrate the Mexican tradition of Dia de los Muertos.  Saturday & Sunday from noon to 4pm.  Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for kids.

Halloween Shows at The Planetarium at Raritan Valley Community College (North Branch)
What frightening things are in the skies?  Find out at the Planetarium!  "Spooky Skies" will draw parallels between celestial objects and famous monsters.  Saturday at 3pm and 7pm.  "Fright Light" is a Halloween concert with songs like Michael Jackson's "Thriller."  Saturday at 4pm with a teen (scarier) version at 8pm.  Tickets are $6 per person.  Advance registration strongly recommended.

Pumpkin Patch Day at Liberty Hall Museum (Union)
This historical site is throwing a day of Fall-themed festivities.  There will be pumpkin picking, hayrides, and pumpkin painting and pumpkin carving.  The New Jersey Devil may even make an appearance!  Saturday from 10am to 4pm. $10 for adults, $6 for kids, under three are free. Bring extra money for pumpkins, food and beverages.

Nature of the Night Halloween Hike at Stony Brook Watershed (Pennington)
This hike through the watershed reserve includes jack-o-lanterns, a campfire, stories, and talks about creatures that bring life to the folklore of Halloween.  Appropriate for kids ages 4 to 10.  Saturday at 6:30pm.  $20 per person.

Haunted Forest at Tenafly Nature Center

This not so haunted forest is just alive with real forest creatures of the night!  A guide will take small groups through the forest for a not too scary and fun hike to learn more about the animals who live in the forest.  There will be complimentary refreshments, crafts, and a campfire.  Saturday and Sunday from 5pm to 8pm.  $10 per person, children under 2 are free (no strollers).  Advance registration strongly recommended.

Haunted Creek Ride (Newport)
Take a boat ride through 5000 acres of dark, creepy swamp… you never know what awaits you in the dreaded depths of the water!  This may be scary for young children!  Friday and Saturday from 7pm to 10:30pm, Sunday from 7pm to 9:30pm.  $10 per person.  Call 856-447-3633 to reserve.
