The Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park hosts their annual Arbor Fields Festival. The festival includes a ceremony where children can plant their own trees. For thrill seekers, there is tree climbing (no worries, a safety harness is provided) and a mechanical bull ride. Enjoy food and a relaxing atmosphere at Arboretum’s Periwinkles Garden Cafe. While your there, be sure to see the exhibit “Buffalo Bill, Wyoming and the Coe Family”.

Come celebrate Arbor Day all this weekend at the Old Westbury Gardens. Take part in all kinds of fun nature activities such as a scavenger hunt using a mobile application! Also featured at the festival are kids tree tours, crafts, fun classes on tree biology, arts crafts and more. Admission is free for children if you bring a used box of American-made crayon from 10:00am-11:00am.

Learn all about the process it takes to go from sheep to shawl this Sunday! The Daniel Kissam House Museum presents the Sheep to Shawl Festival where you can take part in the spinning, carding, knitting and weaving of sheep’s wool. Also included are face painting, fun games for children, llamas, rug- hooking demonstrations and musical entertainment. Refreshments will be available as well as a free shuttle from the Sheep and Shaw Festival to the Huntington Tulip Festival listed below.

Come and commemorate the Dutch heritage with the 28th annual Dutch Festival at Hofstra University. This spring festival features a plant sale, an all star Dutch Band, a jazz band and over 70,000 tulips in bloom! Face painting and other fun children’s activities will be available, and there will be authentic Dutch cuisine to enjoy. Homemade Dutch braid sandwiches, Dutch crumb cake, cheeses and cookies are just some the yummy treats available at the festival.

Empire Classic Quidditch Tournament

Fourteen college and high school Quidditch teams will compete on two adjacent fields for this family friendly event. Some team members may be dressed in pirate costume, to honor the Flying Dutchman, Hofstra's mascot. Harry Potter and Pirates, doesn't get much better than that. Parking is free.
