Surfing Lessons for Kids on Long Island
1. Skudin Surf – Long Beach
This family-run surf school has instructors with decades of experience. Skudin hosts a half-day and full-day surf camp for kids ages 4-14 in Long Beach. Students learn to ride the waves, practice ocean safety, and partake in fun beach games and activities. Skudin Surf offers private and group lessons as well as special surf party events and parties.
2. Surf2Live – Long Beach
Surf2Live surf school in Long Beach believes in 100 percent pure surf time. Private lessons, a kids surf camp, and classes are available for little surfers looking to paddle out. It also offers surf parties perfect for summer birthdays or other beach-inspired celebrations and events.
3. Rafe & Co. Swim and Surf Club – Dix Hills
Rafe & Co Swim and Surf Club provides surf lessons by appointment. Clients meet instructors at the beach with a swimsuit, sunscreen, and a towel ready to learn to ride the waves. It also offers swim lessons for all ages.
4. Island Surf School – Westhampton Beach
Island Surf School in Westhampton Beach is celebrating its 20th anniversary of providing surf lessons on the east end. its surf camp hosts kids ages 6-15 for a three-day session in the morning. It also gives private lessons that include water safety, reading rip currents, surfing etiquette, and more.
5. Main Beach Xpeditions – Wainscott
Main Beach surf school has been in the business of teaching surf lessons for more than 30 years. MBX surf camp sessions for kids are a five-day, week-long half-day program in July and August. No previous surfing experience is necessary to join the fun. Note the website says that campers should be confident swimmers.
6. Hamptons Surf Co. – Various beach locations from Southampton to Bridgehampton
Led by professional surfer Kurt Rist, Hamptons Surf Co. teaches private and group lessons and offers advanced coaching. The age range for surf lessons is 5 and up, but instructors will teach younger students depending on comfort in the ocean.
7. Flying Point Surf School – Sagaponack
Flying Point Surf School runs weekly surf camps for ages 5-16 in July and August. All experience levels are welcome to join the fun and learn surf forecasting, wave knowledge, and ocean safety techniques.
8. East End Surf Club – Montauk
East End Surf Club offers both private and semi-private surf lessons as well as coaching for all levels in the ultimate surf town of Montauk. The surf club at Ditch Plains Beach is for kids ages 6-13 and runs from the end of June through the end of August. The kid's surf club includes surf skills, analyzing surf conditions, beach games, boogie boarding, and team-building fun.
9. CoreysWave Professional Surf Instruction – Montauk
Originally from Southern California, owner Corey Senese brings his passion for surfing to the East End. Surf lesson options include private, group, and a kids surf academy. This surf school also offers 120-minute training sessions for those seeking longer adventures in the waves.
10. Air + Speed Surf Shop – Montauk
Air + Speed Surf Shop offers surf lessons and a surf camp for kids ages 7-14. Kids can get stoked to take on the swells at the end of the world, as Montauk is affectionately known.
11. Legend Surf Company – Various beach locations from East Hampton to Montauk
Legend Surf Company offers surf lessons for all ages. Founder and professional big wave rider Andrew Karr is the head instructor. Surf instruction is available for paddling out at various East End beaches.
