Houston's Fall & Winter Family Fun Runs

Fall marks the beginning of a lot of things, from Pumpkin Spice-flavored everything, (slightly) cooler weather, and race season for all of Houston's running enthusiasts. Interested in doing something active and fun with the whole family? Look no further than this list of family fun runs happening throughout the Houston area over the next few months. Whether you're a seasoned runner, weekend warrior, stroller strider, or someone who just wants to get outdoors and do something different with the family, there's a race on this list for you.

October

Color the Creek 5k & 1k Family Fun Run - Oct. 1
6823 Cypresswood Dr., Spring
Bring out the whole family for this color-filled fun run! Participants will get doused in color along the course and are invited to stay for a color party at the creek after the race. 

Individual 5k Cost: $40
Team 5k Cost: $30 (minimum of 10 people)
1k Cost: $20 for adults; $10 for children 12 and under  

Goblin Gallop 5k Run/Walk and Kid's Monster Mile - Oct. 8
610 E. San Augustine, Deer Park
Hit the ground running this fall by attending the Goblin Gallop 5k Fun Run, and then cheer on the kids as they run in the Monster Mile. Portions of the proceeds from this event benefit The Rose Houston, which is an organization determined to help reduce deaths due to breast cancer. 

5k Cost: $20 until Oct. 7; $25 on race day
Monster Mile Cost: $10 until 10/07; $15 on race day

Running of the Bulls 5k and Kids' 1k - Oct. 9
One NRG Park, Houston
Come out and support the Houston Texans Foundation and Houston Methodist at the Running of the Bulls 5k and Kids' 1k. After the race, there is a party in NRG Stadium with free food, drinks, and live music while the kids play in TORO's Kids Zone.

Child Advocates Superhero Run - Oct. 15
800 Town and Country Blvd., Houston
Help support raising awareness for Houston-area children who have been neglected or abused by dressing up as your favorite superhero and running the Superhero 5k or 1k. Then, after the race, stick around for a party, awards ceremony, and costume contest. 

5k Cost: $25
1k Cost: $15

Heroes Against Violence 5k Fun Run - Oct. 22
5504 First Street, Katy
Join forces with Katy Christian Ministries and the City of Katy Police Department by running in the 3rd Annual 5k Against Violence. Don't forget to dress up as a superhero for this race, and take advantage of a fun after-party the whole family will enjoy once you finish.

Adult 5k Cost: $30 until Oct. 21; $40 on race day
Kids' 5k Cost: $20 until Oct. 21; $25 on race day

Spooktacular 5k Fun Run - Oct. 21
15300 University Blvd., Sugar Land
Kick off Halloween early this year by heading out to Memorial Park in Sugar Land for a family fun run. Cheer on the kiddos as they run their own 3/4-mile race after the Spooktacular 5k, then enter the costume contest for even more fun. All proceeds from this race go to Behind the Badge Charities to assist first responders.

Adult 5k Cost: $30 until 10/08; $35 from Oct. 9-23
Kids' 5k Cost: $20 until 10/08; $25 from Oct. 9-23

Cypress Creek Lakes Zombie Stomp - Oct. 29

You're not going to want to miss this Halloween race! In addition to the 5k and 1-mile family fun run/walk, there are a variety of prizes up for grabs. Overall top male and female finishers will claim a $250 cash prize and the top finisher in each age/gender group will walk home with a $100 cash prize. Don't want to race competitively, but want in on the prize action? Enter the costume contest for a chance to win an additional $100 cash prize. 

5k Cost: $35
Kids' 1k Fun Run Cost: $25

November

Running for Greater Things - Nov. 5
27240 Hwy. 290, Cypress
This is an event for the whole family; runners, walkers, strollers, and even dogs are all welcome and encouraged to join together in an effort to raise money for adoptive and foster families at this fun run. Runners can choose from a 10k, 5k, and 1k distance and enjoy family fun throughout the duration of the event. 

5k and 10k Cost: $30 until Nov. 2; $35 until Nov. 4; $40 on race day
1k Cost: $15

Run in the Park - Nov. 12
6100 Hermann Park Drive, Houston
This race around Hermann Park has been running for 13 years. Be sure to hang out after the race for food and drinks, music, and lots of family activities. 

5k Walk/Run Cost: $20 
Kids' 1k Run Cost: $8

Walk of Love & 5k Fun Run - Nov. 12
3831 Hwy 36 S., Rosenberg
Come support Lunches of Love and Finnegan Auto Group as they work towards ending childhood hunger at the 6th Annual Walk of Love & 5k Fun Run. This FREE event is one for the whole family, with a silent auction, live entertainment, and Kids' Korner full of activities.

5k Cost: FREE (Donations are accepted and appreciated)

Cypress 5k Fun Run - Nov. 19
13403 Woods Spillane Blvd., Cypress
This isn't just an ordinary 5k - it's a puppy parade, too. Whether you're interested in competing in the timed 5k, participating in the family fun run/walk, or joining the dog-walking segment, there's something for everyone at this fun event. 

5k Run/Walk/Dog Walk Cost: $30

City of Conroe Turkey Trot - Nov. 19
2500 South Loop 336E, Conroe
Get a head start on the Thanksgiving festivities by heading out to Carl Barton, Jr. Park in Conroe the Saturday before Thanksgiving for a family fun run. 

5k Cost: $20 until Nov. 18; $25 on race day

Bay Area Turkey Day 10k/5k/KidsK - Nov. 24
2427 Bay Area Blvd., Houston
Take a trot through Clear Lake at this family-friendly fun run. Runners can choose from the 10k, 5k, or KidsK distance, giving runners of all abilities a chance to get in on the fun. 

10k and 5k Cost: $25
KidsK Cost: $10

Pearland Turkey Trot - Nov. 24
3775 S. Main, Pearland
Instead of the traditional 5k/10k Turkey Trot options, this Thanksgiving Day family run offers 6- and 4-mile runs, a 1-mile family walk, and a KidsK. Be sure to stick around after your run or walk for a Thanksgiving-themed post-race party.

Flapjack 5k Fun Run - Dec. 2
1100 S. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood
Start off the day by cheering on the kids during the KidsK then line up afterwards for a 5k fun run of your own. After the race, there is a pancake breakfast to celebrate a successful race day with the family. 

5k Cost: $20 until Dec. 1; $25 on race day
KidsK Cost: $10 until Dec. 2; $15 on race day

Jingle Bell Run/Walk - Dec. 10
6535 Creekside Forest Drive, The Woodlands
Don your reindeer antlers and holiday gear for this festive fun run through The Woodlands, then follow up the race by entering the costume contest. There's even a costume contest for the pets.

Rudolph Fun Run - Dec. 10

Dressing up in Christmas costumes, running a loop decked with Christmas decorations, smiling for a picture with Santa... you and your family can do all this and more at this holiday filled family fun run.

Houston's 12k of Christmas Run - Dec. 17
500 Texas Ave., Houston
Take a jaunt through downtown Houston while participating in this race that features Christmas carolers, Santa Claus and his merry elves, hot chocolate at the finish line, and much more. Note that there is no day-of registration.

12k Cost: $40 until Oct. 31; $45 from 11/01-11/30; $50 from 12/01-12/16
6k Cost: $30 until Oct. 31; $32.50 from 11/01-11/30; $35 from 12/01-12/16
KidsK Cost: $15

Santa Hustle 5k & Half Marathon - Dec. 18
Location TBD, Galveston
Join thousands of other Santas and run the streets of Galveston this year. Enjoy cookies, candy, and Christmas music as you run, and afterwards, there is a party with costume contests for Best Group Santa Costume and the Best Individual Santa Costume Contest for even more fun.
