Holiday Crafts for Non-Crafters

12/16/11 - By Tracy B

Watch out Martha Stewart! Holiday crafts and decorations have taken on a whole new spin…quick and easy. With some materials you have around the house (oranges in your fruit bowl?) and maybe one mini-trip to the craft store, even the non-crafter can spread holiday cheer with these easy but beautiful decorations and gift projects.

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

Peppermint Candy Wreath

Tools/Materials: Foam wreath, wrapped peppermint candies, hot glue gun, ribbon for hanging, wreath pins (available at home centers or craft stores), spray shellac

To Make---

  • Hot glue unwrapped peppermint candies on wreath in even rows
  • Use wrappers to fill in outer rim of wreath and inner rim…use wreath pins rather than hot glue
  • Fill the “holes” between the candies either with crushed peppermint candies or red-hot candies, whichever will fit (depends on the size of your wreath form)
  • Shellac
  • Loop a ribbon around and hang

Bead and Pipe Cleaner Ornaments

Tools/Materials: Assorted beads (sparkly or metallic look best), pipe cleaners, ornament hooks for hanging

To Make---

  • Make a loop at the bottom of each pipe cleaner so bead won’t fall off
  • String bead on pipe cleaner in pattern of your choice
  • Make another loop at the top to hold beads on pipe cleaner
  • Bend into candy cane shape or other shape of your choice
  • Use ornament hooks to hang.

Dried Orange Ornaments and Homemade Star Ornaments

These fun and simple ornaments from Good Housekeeping take only some fruit from your fruit bowl or music/scrapbook paper. Add a few embellishments and some ribbon and you'll have beautiful treasures for your tree.

Baby Sock Advent Calendar

If you really want to be Martha Stewart, this is one of her less-Martha-y creations, meaning it's fairly easy even for us non-crafters (and completely adorable)All you need is 24 socks in assorted holiday colors/patterns/sizes), ribbon, number stickers, round stickers, pushpins, and mini clothespins. Then fill and have fun!

Pinup Wreath

Also straight from Martha herself. All it takes is some mini wooden clothespins, a wooden embroidery hoop, pretty ribbon, wood glue and you've got a wonderful home for your holiday cards!

Go for it….even you can craft! Good Luck and Happy Holidays!
