November kicks off the holiday season and we've rounded up these great fall and festive events for you to enjoy with Connecticut kids this month. The Stamford Downtown Parade Spectacular is CT's version of the Macy's Day Parade. With over 100,000 in attendance each year, it's a special event that gets everyone in the holiday spirit. There are great cultural activities, historical Thanksgiving family events, nature programs, and kid-friendly road races to work off all those mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie.

Say what you will about November, but few months are more, well, American. Our national celebration of thanks bonds citizens from Port Washington to Port Jefferson and from Manhasset to Montauk.

Long Islanders this month will vote in regional elections, honor our veterans, eat some turkey, maybe watch some football, and perhaps even engage in that all-American sport of Black Friday shopping. Who needs Amazon when you’ve got Roosevelt Field, right?

Fall in NYC has well and truly arrived—the days are crisp and cool, and the leaves are changing color all around town. While the holiday season is creeping up on us, too, there's still plenty of fall fun to pack in, including the annual Canstruction, celebrations of Día de Los Muertos, a musical about taco-loving dragons, and of course, the unstoppable juggernaut that is Baby Shark live.

If your family kicks into Christmas mode the minute your Halloween costumes come off, we're not judging—in fact, we're right there behind you in the Santa hats! Reserve your spots for Polar Express train rides and Macy's Santaland, which is by (FREE) reservation only again in 2019. Meanwhile, the NYBG's holiday train show returns this month with new creations, along with the beloved Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, brand-new holiday lantern festivals, and an immersive holiday installation at Saks Fifth Avenue featuring the characters from Frozen 2.

November is a month of transition, as celebrations of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the December holidays merge—and Westchester and the Hudson Valley are rich with seasonal family activities. There's still time to squeeze in visit to local Halloween haunts like the Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze, which runs through the end of November; then, before you can say gobble-gobble, it’s time for the Thanksgiving Day Parade and Skydiving Santa.

Thanksgiving is the official start of the holiday season, and you can celebrate the old-fashioned way at Thanksgiving Harvest Home & Armistice Observance and the Historic Village at Allaire. And it's already beginning to look a lot like Christmas, with the start of holiday train rides and holiday light shows like the ones at Skylands Stadium and Turtle Back Zoo. Santa Claus is coming to town, too, with celebrations of his arrival at Storybook Land and in Nutley.

What we found was a refreshingly authentic travel experience, steeped in nature and sweetened by welcoming locals. Our overwhelming impression is just the absolute greenness of the sate: thick forests of trees, so many trees, and lush, dense greenery. More than three-quarters of the state is covered by forest.
