Best Pizza in NYC: The Top Slice Joints for Families

Say cheese—or plain, if you please—when ordering a slice at one of these NYC pizza restaurants. Photo by author

NYC pizza is like nothing else. As a small-town kid, I had three options for pizza growing up: Pizza Hut, Little Caesars Pizza, and Domino's Pizza. While I enjoyed stuffed crust and bigfoot pies in my day, I'll never forget my first NYC pizza slice. It had that perfect not-too-chewy, not-too-crispy crust, the right amount of sauce, gooey, greasy cheese running over the edges, and it came just as it should: on two paper plates that felt like they were going to disintegrate in my hands, all for the whopping price tag of two bucks.

Needless to say, I was in NYC pizza heaven. Now that I have two kiddos, I get to share a little slice of that NYC pizza heaven with them, too.

Whether you're a local, or visiting NYC for a family vacation, know this: NYC pizza lives up to the hype if, you know where to find it. Whether you're looking for a pizza slice at an iconic, only-in-NYC restaurant or an off-the-beaten-path neighborhood NYC pizza joint, we've laid out our favorite pizza spots below. Dreamery uses only the best all-natural milk and cream from local New York State creameries.

Looking for the best ice cream places in NYC? Look no further for icy cold treats! We rounded up the coolest only-in-NYC favorites.

When it came to ice cream treats in the Midwest in the '80s, we had one ice cream option: Dairy Queen. Don’t get me wrong, that twist cone hit the spot, but its simplicity certainly makes the variety of cold treats in NYC that much more impressive. The top of the parental joy list has to be those excited eyes my girls get when presented with a frrrozen hot chocolate, gelato, or ice pop! Go beyond the basic cone and try something new and cool this summer.

From ice pops in Crown Heights to Little Italy's plant-based gelato, we've got the tastiest and most unique icy treats in town. We've also rounded up the best ice cream places in NYC and the top spots for outrageous ice cream sundaes in NYC. Savvy DIY parents know New York City's parks make a fun (and inexpensive) backdrop for a birthday bash during the warmer months. Granted, this type of party requires more work than booking one of those all-inclusive packages, but you get to control most of the details, including the cost (though sadly, not the weather).

Play Fountains in NYC Where Kids Can Get Totally Soaked

The Pier 6 Waterlab has been one of our favorite NYC splash pads since it opened in 2010. Photo by Sara M

While all three of my kids love to go for a dip, these NYC splash pads and play fountains offer more spontaneous fun than a swim in one of NYC's public pools. For those hot summer days when we're out and about or need a last-minute distraction, I keep this list of play fountains and splash pads in my back pocket.

A more immersive experience than standard NYC sprinkler parks, these mega splash pads and play fountains feature wading pools, plus jets shooting water sky-high. Play fountains are the perfect place for kids to frolic and get completely doused without mommy having to go all-in—literally. Best of all? They're all completely FREE. Here are 10 fun mega-sized splash pads in NYC where kids can get absolutely soaked.
