Drop-off Programs for Boston Kids on President's Day

Kids might have President's Day off from school, but that doesn’t always mean that mom and dad can stay home too. Many business are in full swing despite the holiday, which can leave parents in a tight spot when it comes to childcare. Even tougher, many February vacation week drop-off camps don’t start until the Tuesday after President’s Day. To make life easier, we've compiled a list of Boston-area drop-off programs that are available on the holiday. The best part? They all look super fun to us!

Kids in THE KITCHEN Cooking Camp - Boston Market District
Ages: 6-10 years
Cost: $48 for Trustees members, $60 for nonmembers
Location: THE KITCHEN at the Boston Public Market, 100 Hanover St., Boston
Sessions: February 20, 21, 22 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
THE KITCHEN at the Boston Public Market is hosting a half-day Cooking Camp on President’s Day this year. At the camp, kids will explore local food systems and taste seasonal foods from market vendors. The program will provide hands-on cooking lessons, a storytime, crafts and other fun activities. Lunch and snacks are included. The camp is limited to 20 kids, so register ASAP!

Drumlin Farm Winter Vacation Camp - Lincoln
Ages: 4-9 years
Cost: $52 for members, $62 for nonmembers
Location: Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary, 208 S. Great Road, Lincoln
Sessions: February 20 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary is offering programs every day of February school break, and has a special one planned for President’s Day. The Monday session is all about experiencing the life of farmers. Kids will get a hands-on farm experience doing activities like feeding sheep and chickens, checking for eggs, and cleaning pony stalls. After the farm chores are done, campers will enjoy a farm fresh treat. Sessions fill up fast, so register early.

My Gym Newton Winter Camp - Newton
Ages: 2 years 9 months-9 years
Cost: Varies
Location: My Gym Newton, 30 Ossipee Road, Newton
Sessions: February 20-24 from 9 a.m.-noon
Kids as young as 2 years and 9 months old are welcome to attend the My Gym Newton Winter Camp. The sessions run every day during February vacation week, but kids can attend as few as one, including on President’s Day. Campers will get to play themed games, have fun adventures, participate in relays, and spend time doing crafts. There are discounts available when siblings attend together. 

JCC Kids’ Choice February School Vacation Program - Newton
Ages: Grades K-6 for camp and grades 7-9 for counselor-in-training sessions
Cost: Varies
Location: Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center, 333 Nahanton St., Newton
Sessions: February 20-24 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
The Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston is hosting the Kids’ Choice February School Vacation Program this year during February school break. Sessions run all week, but kids can just attend one, President’s Day included. Campers have a choice of electives each day that include activities like sports, swimming, arts and crafts, dance, cooking, board games, and rock climbing. Monday’s session will also have a special performance of The Amazing Max Magic Show.

Parts and Crafts Vacation Week Camp - Somerville
Ages: 7-13 years
Cost: $75 per day or $130-$325 sliding scale for the full week
Location: Parts and Crafts, 577 Somerville Ave., Somerville
Sessions: February 20-24 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Kids can attend Parts and Crafts Vacation Week Camp for 1-5 days, including President’s Day. Parts and Crafts is a gadget-haven specifically designed for children, so it’s the perfect place for them to play (and learn something while they're at it). Camp sessions include activities like igloo making, ice skating, and snowball fights in addition to basic building, crafting, and inventing. Sessions fill up quickly, so register early.

Boys & Girls Club School Vacation Week - multiple locations
Ages: Varies by location
Cost: Free for members
Location: 11 total in Boston, six with vacation week hours
Sessions: Varies by location
Boston is home to 11 Boys & Girls Club locations and at least six of them will be open during February school break, including on President’s Day, providing kids with a safe and fun place to go while parents are at work. The clubs that will be open are: Berkshire Partners Blue Hill Club in Dorchester; Charlestown Club on Green Street in Boston; Edgerley Family South Boston Club; Jordan Club in Chelsea; Mattapan Teen Center; and Yawkey Club of Roxbury. Activities, opening hours, and ages allowed vary by location, so check with each one individually.
