Who wants ice cream? Everybody, especially in the summer! Fortunately, we have no shortage of ice cream near Atlanta. We've got all the big ice cream chains, but we especially love local ice cream spots—these ice cream parlors are the ones that really hit the sweet spot. It was a tough job, researching and tasting various flavors and styles of ice cream near Atlanta, but somebody had to do it! Read on for the "scoop" on the yummiest ice cream spots near Atlanta, including local mobile ice cream and popsicle stands.

1. The Yard Milkshake Bar - Downtown and Buckhead 

This decadent milkshake spot serves over-the-top creations in souvenir glass mason jars, featuring yummy toppings that spill over like whipped cream, brownies, candy, cookie dough, and more.

2. Sweet Stack - Sweet Auburn Historic District

Sweet Stacks is delicious dessert bar with everything from handcrafted ice cream to cookies and doughnuts.

Known for: Doughnut sandwiches (ice cream scoops between two doughnuts...genius!)

3. Morelli's Ice Cream - Multiple Locations 

An Atlanta favorite since 2008, Morelli's serves up gourmet ice cream, cakes, and pies.

4. Big Softie - Summerhill & Poncey Highland 

Premium soft-serve ice cream made with local, organic dairy and unique toppings like Cheez-It brittle(!) and toasted coconut. Located just across the hall from Little Tart Bakeshop for even more tasty options.

5. Cereal and Cream - Grant Park 

Cereal infused with ice cream! Need we say more? This pretty-in-pink shop also offers their Cereal and Cream food truck so you may catch a glimpse of it driving through Atlanta.

6. The Frosty Caboose - Chamblee 

Head to downtown Chamblee and take a sugary ride on The Frosty Caboose! This train-themed ice cream shop serves yummy ice cream flavors, as well as sundaes, sandwiches, and more.

7. Jake's Ice Cream - Hapeville

Jake's is an Atlanta institution, serving the creamiest, dreamiest frosty treats for years.

8. Spun Cow Creamery - East Atlanta 

Recently opened in Atlanta, Spun Cow Creamery serves gourmet ice cream and cotton candy bar.  The only thing better than the scooped ice cream are the handspun milkshakes that make sure of these great flavors.

9. Southern Custard - Brookhaven 

Southern Custard's creamy frozen custard is made fresh daily and makes a necessary visit during Atlanta's sweltering months.

10. Van Leeuwen - Old Fourth Ward

This New York City-born ice cream spot, known for its dairy and vegan options, opens its first Atlanta scoop shop this month at Ponce City Market. Van Leeuwen serves creative seasonal flavors, and the Atlanta spot will offer a limited-time sundae with Bomb Biscuit Co.

12. Butter & Cream - Multiple Locations 

Known as "Atlanta's hometown, house made, small batch ice cream purveyor," Butter & Cream offers a modern twist on classic favorites.

13. Frozen Cow Creamery - Kennesaw 

This family-owned shop specializes in liquid nitrogen-frozen ice cream treats, making for a cool fog experience.

14. Good Vibes Ice Cream Shop & Soda Pop - Dunwoody 

The newest addition to Dunwoody Village has a retro-arcade vibe with Pac-Man and Donkey Kong, plus hard-scooped ice cream, sorbets and “Fizzies” (homemade sodas with flavor shots).

15. Sarah Jean's Ice Cream - Marietta 

Sarah Jean's has an old school ice cream parlor ambience with a huge amount of flavors. In addition to ice cream, visitors can choose from yogurt, gelato, Italian ice, and more.

16. Buford Station Creamery - Buford 

Buford Station Creamery is an adorable, family‑owned ice cream shop in Buford’s historic Main Street, where families enjoy scoops, shakes, and floats while watching trains pass by.

We can't talk about ice cream and popsicle carts without mentioning the Atlanta institution: King of Pops! Besides popping up at concerts, festivals, and events around town, King of Pops has bars in Old Fourth Ward, Colony Square and three spots at Ponce City Market. (Bonus: Adults can order boozy creations!)

Don't wait for the ice cream truck to come around, schedule it to come to your house! This company sends traditional ice cream trucks, an attendant, and lots of treats to your party or event. 

21. Moki Pops

Fresh, all-natural, flavorful popsicles are Moki Pops' specialty. Fans can enjoy these frozen, fruity treats at their permanent locations around Atlanta (including Piece of Cake in Buckhead and Decatur), at pop-up events or your own parties. 

22. Snowie Atlanta

Based in Lawrenceville, this family-owned mobile shaved ice truck and catering service brings a self-serve flavor sttaion with over 10 fruity and sugar-free options to events like birthday parties and school fundraisers. 

23. Psychedelic Snow Co. 

This Atlanta-based mobile snowball truck serves finely grained, soft-textured shaved ice in the style of Louisiana snowballs, with a colorful variety of fruity flavors. They bring the celebration to you.
