Family-Friendly Fall Fun Runs and Races in Philadelphia

Whether you have been able to whether the weather to stay in shape this summer or not, the cool crisp air of Fall is almost upon us. And with fall, comes many opportunities to get out and run! Which might be why Fall is one of the best seasons for family-friendly runs. These runs can not only encourage physical health awareness for you and your kids, but help you bond over a shared goal, and possibly learn about a cause or charity that may be a great learning experience for your kids. If you have fun on these runs, keep training for the later festive fall Turkey Trots and Santa Runs!

September Runs

Philadelphia Undy Run/Walk, September 10, 9 AM—Philadelphia, PA

About the event: Dare to be bold at the Undy Run/Walk, a family and pet friendly underwear themed-5K that raises funds and awareness for colon cancer. This all ages event also includes a 1-Mile Fun Run, a giant inflatable colon, and more. Participants can register using discount code CALENDAR to save $5.

Cause or Charity: Colon Cancer

Cost: 5K Adult (14 and older) $35 Advance/ $40 Race Day; 5K Youth (6-13) $30 Advance / $35 Race Day; 1 Mile Fun Run $30 Advance / $35 Race Day; Children under 5 are free.

7th Annual 5K Charity Race & 1M Walk/Fun Run, September 10, 8 AM—Blue Bell, PA

About the event: This family-friendly run encourages kids, so bring the stroller! Dogs can also join in on the fun for th 1 mile walk. Top boy and girl in the kids fun run will win an award. After the race, enjoy free food, such as ice cream, Chick-fil-A, and pizza, and music. Adults enjoy a tasty Victory beer.

Cause: Harambee Foundation for orphaned and impoverished children rescued in Tanzania

Conshohocken Funfest, September 17, 8:30 AM—Conshohocken, PA

About the event: Experience Conshohocken in this 23rd annual 5k run, that lets you see the heart of the city and experience the local community with vendors, live music, and events happening up and down Fayette Street.

Cause: Community support

Healthy Kids Running Series, September 17, 24, and October 1, 9:30 AM—Philadelphia, PA

About the event: This is for the kids only! The Healthy Kids Running Series is a five week running program in the spring and fall for kids from Pre-K to 8th grade. Each Race Series takes place once a week and offers age appropriate running events including the 50 yard dash, the 1/4 mile, the 1/2 mile and the one mile run. 

Cause: Healthy kids, fitness

Orange Run 5k Run/2k Walk, September 18, 9 AM—Chesterbrook, PA 

About the event: The fifth annual Orange Run takes place on the 90-acre Wilson Farm Park, making it a great safe place to run with the family. Runners who are in the competitive spirit can compete for prizes up to $125, or enter into the raffle to win gifts for travel and dining. Enjoy free pizza after the race.

Cause: Breathing Room Foundation

Cost: $25 per person/ $60 per family (three or more)

Trot for Tots 5K and Kids Fun Run, September 24, 9 AM—East Norriton, PA

About the event: Taking place on one of the most unique parks in the Pennsylvania state park system, Norristown Farm Park (a working farm in continuous use since colonial times), this is another safe and well-contained run, where you expect to see an amazing blend of wildlife and historic buildings throughout the course. Kids can enjoy a fun zone, and games and refreshments are available for all.

Cause: Granny Scholarship Fund, Play & Learn’s tuition assistance program for families facing financial difficulty.

Cost: Racers $25, Fun Run for Kids $10

Roxborough YMCA Fit Family 5k and 2 Mile Fun Run/Walk, September 24, 9 AM—Philadelphia, PA

About the event: Run or walk the beautiful Forbidden Drive while you share the importance of healthy living with your family. Refreshments available after the run.

Cause: YMCA, Fitness Awareness

Cost: $30 Adults (18+); $10 Youth (5-17)

Starry Night Philadelphia 8.5KSeptember 24, 6 PM—Philadelphia, PA

About the event: Each of the 28,000 steps in this 8.5K honors one of our Stars, the 28,000 children living with a brain tumor. The course will include a shorter distance for walkers and there’s even a children’s 50-yard dash. After this evening run/walk, free food and refreshments are served, music, and a beautiful ceremony, as participants light the nighttime sky with lanterns to show support and hope for a cure.

October Runs

Great Eastern State Breakout Race, October 1, 7 AM—Philadelphia, PA

About the event: Join the annual 5k and fun run (which takes place as a half-mile run around Easter State Penitentiary). Celebrate with post-race refreshments.

Cause: Bache Martin Home and School Association

Cost: $30 (5K) and $15 (Kids Run)  

Unique Colors Fun Run, October 1, 8:30 AM—Lancaster, PA

About the event: All the fun of a typical color run, at about half the cost. 

Cause: Life Enrichment Services for people with developmental delays in Lancaster County

Cost: $30, runners 5 and under are free

Camp Innabah Fall Classic, October 8, 8:30 AM—Spring City, PA

About the event: This five mile course ranges from dirt trails, gravel roads, and a few short paved sections over rolling terrain above the beautiful French Creek in scenic Chester County. This run features a Pancake Breakfast, fall festival, and open house activities, as well as coupons to All Kinds of Fast Phoenixville and North Wales Running Co. All pre-registered runners receive a free t-shirt. After the race, the fall festival includes tours, hayrides, s'mores, and other fun camp activities.

Cause: All proceeds benefit the summer camping programs and scholarship funds  

Cost: $30 until October 1, $35 day-of registration 

Hatboro YMCA Skeleton Skurry, October 29, 8 AM—Hatboro, PA

About the event: Participate in a 5k or a mile walk, where kids 5 and up are welcome to participate at either level. Beginning at Pennypack Elementary School, take a running tour of Hatboro. Prizes are awarded for best costume.

Cause: Hatboro YMCA Financial Assistance Program

Cost: Ages 13+ ($30.00); Ages 5 - 12 ($12.00) 

Philadelphia Costume Dash 5k and 10k, October 29, 8:30 AM—Philadelphia, PA

About the event: For families with slightly older kids, join thousands of costumed runners at the first annual Philadelphia Costume Dash 5k/10k. Put on your craziest costume and get ready for five or ten kilometers of fun down Martin Luther King Drive (West River Drive) against the iconic backdrop of Boathouse Row on the Schuykill Banks. If you have a babysitter, a pub crawl follows the race.
