Fun Things to Do This Weekend with Westchester Kids: Classic Circus Fun, Auto Show, Festivals June 22 and 23

This weekend kicks off the official start of summer! If the weather cooperates (and it looks like it might!) there are lots of great outdoor activities. All weekend you can check out Animals and Acrobats. On Saturday there's the Annual Yorktown Auto Show and Saturday night there's The Great Library Sleepover in Chappaqua.

Sunday there's the Annual African American Heritage Festival in Valhalla. You can also take a guided tour of Wildflower Island at Teatown Lake Reservation.

Friday and Saturday
A Night on Fire - Sleepy Hollow
Fire juggling and comedy troupe A Different Spin takes Sleepy Hollow by storm this weekend. Enjoy a live display of fire arts, dancing, juggling, sword fighting and more at Philipsburg Manor. Two shows each night on Friday and Saturday. $20 for adults; $15 for ages 17 and under.

Animals and Acrobats - Croton-on-Hudson
For more circus style fun, head over to Van Cortlandt Manor to enjoy classic circus acts like tightrope walkers, mimes and jugglers as well as birds of prey demonstrations and more animal encounters. Plus free popcorn for kids 18 and under with advanced ticket purchase. Saturday and Sunday, 10am-5pm, $16 for adults; $12 for kids ages 3-17.

Yorktown Chamber of Commerce Auto Show - Yorktown 
If your kids like cars as much as my son, check out the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce Auto Show. In addition to dozens of 2013/2014 car models to admire, there's also lots of kid-friendly activities, amusement rides, face painting and food. Admission and parking is FREE.

The Great Library Sleepover - Chappaqua 
I wish they had this when I was a kid! Chappaqua Public Library is hosting The Great Library Sleepover. Come in pjs with all your sleeping essentials and settle in for a night of stories, games and snacks. FREE

Sunday
African American Heritage Festival - Valhalla 
Whether you're celebrating your own heritage or just want to learn more about African American culture, head to Kensico Dam Plaza for a day of live music, native food, an array of vendors and lots of family friendly fun. FREE

Family Tour of Wildflower Island - Ossining
Usually open for ages 12 and up only, Teatown Lake Reservation is hosting a special guided family tour of the 2 acre wildflower sanctuary for families with kids ages 8 and up. The event is not on their website but we called to verify the details! $6 per person.

Pack Chat with Kids - South Salem 
Get up close and personal with the ambassador wolves at the Wolf Conservation Center. Learn all about wolves and decode some of the mythology surrounding these beautiful creatures. $13 for ages 13+; $11 for ages 12 and under.

Beyond Westchester
If you plan to head out of the county this weekend, Kids Club Thirteen has partnered with Stamford Museum Nature Center in CT to present a day of fun-filled activities. Check out a new exhibit on bats, meet farm animals, enjoy nature trails and more. Free for Kids Club Thirteen members. Not a member? In Astoria, The Queens Council of the Arts is throwing a free art inspired block party with lots of fun and unique art-themed activities including Drip Paint Fishing, where guests are given paint brushes attached to fishing poles. There's even remote control canvases (sounds cool). Enjoy live music by local musicians, dancing, a ribbon cutting ceremony and more.
