Your Ultimate Guide to Glamping at El Capitan Canyon Near Los Angeles

6/24/24 - By Roberta B

Dreaming of a nature escape but not into the hassle of traditional camping? You're not alone! Many families love the idea of camping but find the reality of it (hello, funky-smelling tents and deflating air mattresses!) less appealing, especially with kids.

Enter glamping: the perfect blend of luxury and outdoor adventure. Forget roughing it; glamping offers the comfort of a hotel with the immersive experience of being in nature. And for families near Los Angeles, El Capitan Canyon is an unparalleled glamping destination.

While we are avid campers and have tried many campgrounds near Los Angeles, we eagerly tried out the glamping at El Capitan canyon and loved it. Here's your complete guide to everything you need to know about this upscale outdoorsy vacation option.

What is Glamping?

Simply put, "glamping" is glamorous camping. It's about enjoying the beauty of the outdoors without sacrificing comfort. Think cozy cabins or yurts with real beds, fresh linens, and heating. No more wrestling with sleeping bags or filling coolers with melting ice. Glamping at El Capitan Canyon is as easy as checking into a hotel, but infinitely more captivating for kids.Discover El Capitan Canyon: A Glamping Resort Just North of Santa Barbara

Located just north of Santa Barbara, a convenient two-hour drive up the 101 from Los Angeles, El Capitan Canyon offers a unique "camping resort" experience. This isn't your average campground; it's a true getaway with amenities designed for ultimate relaxation and family fun.

Accommodation Options for Every Comfort Level:

El Capitan Canyon provides three distinct styles of accommodation to suit various preferences and budgets:

  • Cabins: From Creekside Queen cabins with a heavenly queen-sized bed and a loft with two twin mattresses (perfect for ecstatic kids!) to King-sized versions with spacious lofts and stairs, or even cabins with bunk beds for families of six, and one-story options for those with toddlers. All cabins feature private bathrooms with showers.

  • Yurts: Experience the unique charm of a yurt with all the glamping essentials.

  • Safari Tents: Robust, industrial-strength tents offer a more traditional "tent" feel but with luxurious upgrades.

All cabins, yurts, and tents come equipped with comfortable beds and linens, electricity, heat, and refrigerators. Yurts and tents utilize clean, modern communal bathrooms with real plumbing.

Beyond the Basics: Resort Amenities:

What makes El Capitan Canyon a "resort"? Beyond the comfortable accommodations, you'll find:

  • Spa treatments: Indulge in a relaxing massage.

  • Concerts: Enjoy live music under the stars.

  • Family movie nights: Cuddle up for a film in a unique outdoor setting.

  • Heated swimming pool: Take a refreshing dip no matter the weather.

Things to Do at El Capitan Canyon

There's no shortage of activities to keep your family entertained without even leaving the property:

  • El Capitan Beach Access: Just a short hike or quick drive away, El Capitan Beach offers stunning coastal beauty.

  • Private Trails: Explore the wooded creek and surrounding hills on exclusive trails accessible only to guests.

  • Playground & Heated Pool: Classic family fun for all ages.

  • Llama Farm: A highlight for many families! Take a 20-minute hike up the hill to an organic farm featuring heritage sheep, goats, and friendly llamas. Catch Larry, the breeder, at feeding time (around 9 am most mornings) or on his Saturday 10 am hike for a chance to pet and interact with the animals.

  • On-Site Store & Deli: Forgot something? No worries! The well-stocked shop has essentials, and the deli-style food counter makes breakfast a breeze. Don't forget to bring firewood, s'mores fixings, cups, and plates, though these are also available for purchase.

  • Bike Rentals: Borrow bikes to ride to the beach, or bring your own kids' bikes for tooling around the "glampground."

Why to Choose Glamping at El Capitan Canyon

Glamping vs. Hotel:

  • Immersive Nature: Step directly into the woods from your door.

  • Natural Alarm Clock: Wake up to the sound of birdsong.

  • Cozy Campfires: Snuggle by a fire, then effortlessly roll into a real bed.

  • Instant Kid Entertainment: Kids wake up and are immediately entertained by the outdoors (just remind them not to slam the door!).

  • Enhanced Privacy: Enjoy more space and no shared walls.

  • Digital Detox: A perfect weekend away from screens.

Glamping vs. Traditional Camping:

  • Coffee Maker! Need we say more?

  • Real Beds: Say goodbye to camping back pain with comfortable mattresses.

  • Refrigerator: No more food floating in melting ice.

  • Rain? Who Cares?: Weather is no match for a cozy cabin or yurt.

  • Electricity: Charge your devices and enjoy modern conveniences.

  • Heated Swimming Pool: A luxurious touch after a day of exploring.

  • Minimal Prep: Significantly less time and effort for packing and setup.

For traditional camping, Ocean Mesa, is a cushy tent and RV campground down the road.

For families seeking an unforgettable outdoor experience with all the comforts of home, El Capitan Canyon is the ideal glamping getaway from Los Angeles. Pack your bags and get ready to create lasting memories!
