Weekday Event Picks for NJ Kids: Reading & Beading, Fairy Ball, October 12-16

This week kicks off with Columbus Day; a day off from school, meaning an extra day to entertain the little ones. Just Bead Yourself offers all kinds of creative workshops on Monday, such as Pinkalicious Reading & Beading and Afternoon Tea with My Doll & Me, or take a Rockin’ Rocket Ride on Monday at RVCC’s planetarium. There are plenty of opportunities for preschoolers to burn some energy this week, including skating at Tyke’s Tuesday and Kidz Village’s Paint Your Own Pumpkin And don’t forget to check out our Event Calendar for even more options!

Monday, October 12th (Columbus Day)

Northern NJ:
Pinkalicious Reading & Beading (Westfield)
Spend this day off from school enjoying stories and creating a pink bracelet or bookmark at Just Bead Yourself’s Pinkalicious themed-event. Plus, check out the shop’s other events on Monday, including Reading & Beading: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Afternoon Tea with My Doll & Me and Mother/Daughter or BFF Glamour Girl.

Central NJ:
Rockin’ Rocket Ride (Branchburg)
Blast off over at Raritan Valley Community College’s planetarium, where participants will “visit” the moon, sun and planets, all set to music from Journey Into Space. Pre-registration is required.

Preschool Walk: Those Nutty Squirrels (Chatham)
The search is on for squirrels and chipmunks! Preschoolers and their caregivers will take a morning walk through the forest to observe these creatures, then take part in a fun craft. Pre-registration is required.

Southern NJ:
Tyke’s Tuesday (Cherry Hill)
Preschoolers will have a great time learning to skate every Tuesday at International Sports, Skating & Fun Centre. Admission includes skate lessons, skate rental, a small pretzel, drink and play in the funzone.

MAM Park Bench (Montclair)
Introduce your toddlers and preschoolers to museum culture at Montclair Art Museum’s monthly children’s event. The kids will take part in storytime in the galleries, a museum tour and an art project.

Fire Truck Visit (Colts Neck)
In honor of National Fire Prevention Month, the Colts Neck Library hosts this free event that includes a visit from a local firefighter and a tour of a real fire truck. Pre-registration is required. FREE

Preschoolers are invited for a story time at Hoboken Historical Museum. A librarian will share stories and songs with children in the museum setting. FREE

If your 8-13 year olds are looking for a fun after-school activity, head over to the Hazlet Township Public Library for stained glass design workshop using a secret ingredient. Pre-registration is required. FREE

Paint Your Own Pumpkin (Kenilworth)
Kidz Village is always a blast, and pumpkin-painting adds extra fun to the experience. After checking out all the play areas, kids are welcome to paint pumpkins in the party area. Event also takes place in the Woodbridge location.

Southern NJ:
Fairy Ball (Cherry Hill)
Have a royal good time at the Garden State Discovery Museum’s Fairy Ball, featuring princesses, fairies, horse and carriage rides, dancing, crafts and snacks. Sweet & Sassy will be present to create royal up do’s. Pre-registration is required.
