Free outdoor movies in DFW are worth braving the summer heat. After all, where else can you get out of the house to watch a movie with the kids that won't cost a million dollars?  In the metroplex, summer movies for kids mean you can kick back and relax on the lawn at Klyde Warren Park while enjoying food truck eats or watch a free outdoor movie from the comfort of a lazy river in a water zone or aquatic center.

Grab the blankets and snacks, and head to one of the outdoor movie series in Dallas-Fort Worth this summer!

Why Outdoor Movies Are Perfect for DFW Families This Summer

We know it's hot in the metroplex during the summer months. But, outdoor movies are the perfect time to get outside because while the temps might still be up, the sun is down. Plus, the combination of popcorn, cold drinks, icy treats, and a family-favorite film on the big screen is the way to enjoy quality time with your crew without spending a ton of money.

Make the Most of Your Outdoor Movie Night

Most summer movie series are free, kid-friendly events, but it's always a good idea to be prepared! If your movie event is happening in a public space like a park, you'll probably be able to bring a picnic dinner. If it's in a district or private retail center with restaurants or somewhere like an aquatic center with a concession stand, you'll want to check to see if outside food is allowed.

If you're wondering about the time frame, be aware that free outdoor movies in Dallas-Fort Worth usually begin around dusk, so prepare to let your little one pass out on the blanket or stroller or have a getaway plan because these nights can go as late as 10pm.

When it comes to seating arrangements, you'll want to get there early because it's usually first-come, first-served, but the good news is that there are usually fun activities like lawn games or crafts to keep kids entertained until the movie begins. And don't forget your picnic blankets! While lawn chairs aren't always a "yes," blankets are almost always allowed.
