For kids celebrating birthdays during the fall or winter, chances are they'll be celebrating it indoors. But no matter the season, the DC area is chock full of indoor birthday party spots perfect for kids of all ages. From rock climbing to museums, there's no shortage of places to have some indoor birthday fun. Many of these spots show up on our list of favorite indoor play spaces in the area so these aren't fun just for celebrating birthdays but anytime you want to get out of the house, but not get outside, with the kids.

1. Vertical Climb - Manassas, VA
With birthday party packages starting at $275, Vertical Climb offers two-hour rock climbing parties that include 1 hour 15 minutes of climbing time and 45 minutes for birthday cake, presents, and food in a private party room. A host and a 1:5 climber to staff ratio, plus the ability to bring in your own food and drink, make this an easy choice.

2. ZavaZone - Various locations
ZavaZone, with facilities in Rockville, MD, and Sterling, VA, offers a variety of active indoor adventures. From zip lines and ropes courses to rock climbing and trampolines, this is one cool indoor party spot for active kids. Party packages start at $375 and include up to 15 guests. (Note: No outside food, besides cakes or cupcakes).
3. National Building Museum - Washington, DC
For kids who love anything construction-related, the National Building Museum offers birthday party packages between the months of October and June. For $350, you can host 10 children at the musuem with one of three themes: trains, LEGO bricks, or castles and crowns. Parties last for two hours and include free play, a building activity, a special gift for the birthday kid, and more. Outside food and drink are permitted.
4. BusyBees - Various locations
With locations in Chevy Chase, Falls ChurchFairfax Corner, BusyBees offers an indoor playground designed for kids under 48 inches tall and is one of our favorite indoor play spaces in the DC area. Packages start at $300 for 15 children and include free play the entire time the facility is open plus 45 minutes in the private party room. Outside food and drink are permitted, and it's encouraged that you drop off any supplies and food earlier in the week. If you'd like a themed party, there are over 10 themes to choose from, each at an additional cost.

5. Leesburg Animal Park - Leesburg, VA
Go wild at the Leesburg Animal Park with one of three party packages. The Safari Animal Package is available year round, while the other two have limited availability. Packages start at $359 for 10 children and 10 adults and include two hours of party time, including pony rides, animal petting and feeding, and admission to any other park activities happening that day. Other add-ons, such as goodie bags and a moon bounce, are available for an extra cost.
6. Dulles International Airport -Washington, DC
For airplane fans, a birthday party at the airport, yes the airport, may just be your ticket to birthday fun. Dulles International Airport offers several different packages for 15 children and starting at $300. Parties are available on select Saturdays throughout the year and include your choice of an activity, from a K9 demonstration to a scavenger hunt.
7. Fairfax Station Railroad Museum - Fairfax Station, VA
Got a little train lover? Then, the Fairfax Station Railroad Museum might be just the place for some indoor birthday fun. With a large capacity of 50-70 people, the entire extended family can join in, too. Space rental starts at $290 for weekdays but also includes a refundable $100 security deposit, making this the most cost-effective spot on our list. Bring in your own food, drink, music, and decorations to jazz up this unique space.
8. Magic Ground - Washington, DC
Celebrate your kid's birthday in a castle at Magic Ground in Washington, DC. This indoor park includes a castle playground, toddler cave, game area, and more. Birthday party packages come in various levels, starting at $300 for 10 guests and include unlimited park play and an hour and a half of exclusive use of the party room. Weekday parties receive a discounted rate.

Geared towards kids aged 0-5, the indoor play space at Nook is one cool spot. The neutral decor make it a perfect backdrop for any decorations you might want to bring in. Parties include three hours of play time, plus an hour for setup. Outside food and drink, including alcoholic beverages for the grownups, can be brought in. Semi-private parties and private parties are available, starting at $240 plus $20/child aged five and younger.
10. Elemeno Club - Washington, DC
Birthday parties at this indoor play space include an hour and a half of exclusive play time in the SkillZone for up to 20 kids, plus an hour total of setup time. Outside food and drink, including alcoholic beverages for the grownups, and special decorations are encouraged. Customize a playlist, make a slideshow to present on the big TV, and let the kids run loose for an active birthday party sure to please. Packages start at $595, but members receive a 20% discount.
