Weekend Fun for NJ Kids: Halloween Camp In, Pumpkin Patch Day, October 24-25

Beautiful autumn weather weekends are dwindling fast, so put on those cozy sweaters and take the family out for an adventure. With Halloween just around the corner, there’s plenty of ghoulishly good fun to be had from the Pre-Halloween Trick or Treat event in downtown Westfield to the Halloween Camp In at Liberty Science Center to Night of the Living Zoo at Turtle Back. And to get your fill of all things autumn, head to The Great Pumpkin Festival at Heaven Hill Farm, Pumpkin Patch Day at Liberty Hall Museum or take a leisurely Fall Leaves Walk at Liberty State Park. The Great Pumpkin Festival (Vernon, NJ)
Have yourself some good, old-fashioned pumpkin fun in northern NJ at the lovely Heaven Hill. The fest runs until mid-November, so if you still need to pick out an orange beauty, check out the festivities including delicious eats, pony rides, face painting and of course, pumpkin picking.

Not-So-Scary Halloween (Chesterfield, NJ)
Join Fernbrook Farms for their annual Not-So-Scary Halloween event. Enjoy Halloween-themed games, a scavenger hunt and a tractor-pulled wagon ride. Head to Meadow Maze and receive a mission from the friendly scarecrow then wind down with hot chocolate and marshmallows 'round the campfire.

Saturday, October 24th

Halloween Camp In (Jersey City, NJ)
Pack your pjs for a sleepover at New Jersey’s Liberty Science Center and get ready for a ghoulishly good time! Explore all of the awesome exhibits and revel in spooky Halloween thrills, including monster performers, a zombie autopsy and a wizard workshop.

Pumpkin Patch Day (Union, NJ)
Plenty of autumn fun abounds at Liberty Hall this Saturday. Bundle up for a hayride to the pumpkin patch and then take your pick of a painting or carving craft. Feel free to come in costume for some adorable photo ops.

Dia De Los Muertos Block Party (Hoboken, NJ)
All are invited to a family-friendly festival celebrating Dia de los Muertos. Activities include a bouncy house, face painting, an obstacle course, themed arts & crafts and story time plus food trucks and a beer garden for the grown ups!

Fall Leaves Walk (Jersey City, NJ)
Take in the beautiful fall foliage at Liberty State Park along the Hudson River. Your group will take a leisurely stroll along the park’s meandering boardwalk – don’t miss awesome views of Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty and the lower Manhattan skyline.

Night of the Living Zoo (West Orange, NJ)
Celebrate this spooky time of the year by visiting the Turtle Back Zoo at night! Enjoy music, performance artists and a costume contest. Learn about nighttime animal adaptations before you catch a frightful train ride. Recommended for older kids and teens!

Sunday, October 25th

Grease Sing-a-Long (Englewood, NJ)
Sing along to the great movie musical, complete with on-screen lyrics and don't miss the chance to become a T-Bird or Pink Lady for the night by entering the famous costume competition. Costumes are definitely encouraged, but singing is mandatory!

Downtown Westfield Trick or Treat (Westfield, NJ)
Bring the kids to quaint downtown Westfield in their costumes to trick-or-treat in the retail stores and restaurants for some pre-Halloween fun. The Optimist Club of Westfield will host an afternoon Halloween Parade with a costume contest for elementary and preschool-aged kids.

Pumpkin Carving Workshop (Morristown, NJ)
Got your pumpkin but not quite sure what to do with it? The Morris Museum invites families for an afternoon of pumpkin carving and decorating. Pumpkins, tools and art materials will be provided, along with light refreshments.
