Topgolf Atlanta, GA: The Experience

Topgolf Atlanta, GA has three locations: Midtown, Alpharetta, and Buford— I spent the day with my family at the Midtown location. Check in at the front counter to be assigned your reserved hitting bay (accommodates up to six people). Although Topgolf Atlanta Midtown offers three floors of hitting bays, my family prefers the lowest level closest to the targets.

The bay host helps the entire group sign up on the touchscreen pad before explaining the various games, ranging from "easy" to "expert." Input how much time you want to play —don't worry, you can add more time later if your bay isn’t reserved. Our crew signed up for an hour of play, but we had so much fun, we extended our time twice and ate dinner!

Completely covered from the outside elements, the spacious, climate-controlled bays feature high-top tables or couch seating. After selecting a game on the touchscreen, the first player walks up to the mat, waves the golf club over a round sensor, and voila! -- out pops a microchipped golf ball like magic. You only need to remember one rule: Everyone except for the player MUST stand behind the red line to avoid injury. After each swing, watch an instant replay and see the points tally up (similar to bowling).

The bay host will check in with your group about 10-15 minutes before your golf time expires to see if you want to add more minutes to play. You can add time easily in 15-minute increments. If you decide not to extend play, the bay host brings your bill to settle up the tab for golf time and food purchases.

Topgolf Games

Kids love Topgolf because you don’t need to be a golf expert! The Topgolf field features 10 circular targets of various distances, where players earn points the closer they get to the target's. Younger kids love the virtual Angry Birds game, where players use the ball to knock down pigs and structures (shown on a screen) for points. Because it’s a short game, the beginner version of Quick 9 became our family favorite. With nine swings, players try to hit the red targets (25 yards away) for the first three balls, the yellow targets (50 yards) for the next three balls, and the center green target (90 yards) for the last three balls.

TopChip is similar to Quick 9 but takes points off for driving the ball into the wrong target. Expert golfers will want to try Virtual Courses to play at world-renowned courses such as St. Andrews or Pebble Beach. If your family dislikes a particular game after beginning, simply stop mid-play and select a different level or a completely new game using the touchscreen pad.

Topgolf Menu

All that fun works up an appetite! Bay hosts provide table service for Topgolf menu items like appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, and salads, as well as vegan and gluten-free options. For the little ones, order a kids meal that comes with a beverage and choice of carrots, grapes, or tater tots. Parents enjoy the selection of draft beer and specialty cocktails. If this Topgolf visit is a special occasion, save room for the injectable donut holes, complete with syringes filled with chocolate sauce, raspberry jelly, or Bavarian cream.
