From history celebrations to marine ecology classes to creative arts and crafts, educational programs abound on the East End this weekend. Whether you're on the North Fork or South, you’re sure to find an activity that inspires your child’s intellectual curiosity—and maybe even yours, too.

Do you know from where the first Southampton settlers came? Or why ancient cultures celebrated the summer solstice? Or how horseshoe crabs survived the dinosaur extinction? Friday, June 12

Learn to Zumba – Riverhead. Children are introduced to the Latin-inspired dance and fitness program at Riverhead Free Library in a routine that is guaranteed to entertain.

Build a Lasting Bookmark – Bridgehampton. Bookmarks come and go, but children who attend this Hampton Library program learn how to make a personalized bookmark sure to last.

Bay Stewardship Lecture Series – Westhampton Beach. Kids (and adults) learn how to be responsible managers of local waters and why shellfish aquaculture is vital to the East End.

Fun Fridays – Southampton. Rogers Memorial Library offers food, games and spontaneous entertainment.

Saturday, June 13

Southampton 375th Anniversary Celebration – Southampton. This daylong, outdoor family event includes a clambake, picnic and rededication of the town monument from 1640.

Celebrating the Solstice – Riverhead. At the Long Island Science Center, parents and children learn the reasons behind the seasons and why we welcome the longer days of spring and summer.

Tick Education and Prevention – Bridgehampton. This Children’s Museum of the East End program teaches children how to prevent tick bites and what to do if bitten by one of these irritating critters.

Pop-up Books – Bridgehampton. At the South Fork Natural History Museum, children learn about the 800-year history of pop-up and movable books, then make and decorate their own cards.

Sunday, June 14

Horseshoe Crabs and Shorebirds – Westhampton Beach. Investigate why shorebirds and horseshoe crabs seem to come together this time every year under the sun at Pikes Beach.

Squishy Circuits Science Clinic – Bridgehampton. Children at the Natural History Museum use dough, a battery, wires and LED lights to unlock the mysteries of circuits.

Blessing of the Fleet – Montauk. A family tradition since 1955 heralds the start of summer fishing season.
