This Week: November Travel Deals, Turkey Farms Near NYC, Mommy Poppins Night at the New Victory Theater

With the Thanksgiving and holiday breaks coming up, you may be thinking about getting out of town for a few days. Our Travel site just posted a fabulous roundup of seasonal getaway deals, both near (the Poconos, Pennsylvania Dutch Country) and far more exotic (Atlantis in the Bahamas).
Of course you don't need to leave town to have a memorable time celebrating with your family. Try whipping up some vintage Thanksgiving recipes, making a few festive holiday crafts or hitting a nearby turkey farm before the big day.
And we've got a question for you: What are you doing next Saturday evening? Hopefully joining us for Mommy Poppins night at the New Victory Theater. We're hosting a special performance of 360 Allstars, a high-octane spectacle featuring BMX bike tricks, battling break-dancers, acrobats, athletes and a live beat boxer. Mommy Poppins readers save 20% on tickets to the 7pm performance on November 22 and enjoy cookie decorating after the show (and get to meet a few of us bloggers since we'll be there with our kids, too).
Here's what else we covered on the NYC site this week:
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
Santa doesn't officially fly into NYC until Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. But if you just can't wait to see him, you can go on a thrilling North Pole Adventure to see the big red guy at Westchester's Ridge Hill right away.
Another sure sign the season is here: The New York Botanical Garden's annual Holiday Train Show arrives this weekend along with the garden's illuminated Christmas trees.
One of my personal favorite seasonal sights is the FREE Canstruction display at Brookfield Place. If you don't have time to see the all-can sculptures in person, you can always click through our slide show.
How young is too young for live theater? You might be surprised. The New Victory Theater is presenting three shows created specifically for very young audiences, including one just for babies (we're talking crawlers here).
Our biweekly news post has the scoop on a couple of bummer closures, cheap tickets to Handel's Messiah and the controversy surrounding Toy Story 4.
In honor of Veterans Day and this weekend's anniversary of the Battle of Fort Washington, we highlighted 15 Revolutionary War sites in NYC that bring history alive for kids.
Our WeeWork posts included how to make your own I Spy book and a fun, birdseed-filled sensory bin.
Best bets for the weekend include many of our top picks of the month, like the annual Children's Book Fair at the Brooklyn Museum, a star-studded celebration of kid-lit icon E.B. White at Symphony Space and the opening of New York City Children's Theater's new musical The Amazing Adventures of Harvey and the Princess with songs by Laurie Berkner.
About the Author

Raven is a writer, editor, performer and mom, who was born and bred in NYC, just like her husband, her mother and now, her daughter. As a writer, she's contributed articles to New York Magazine, Time Out New York, The Village Voice, the New York Post, TV Guide, Better Homes and Gardens, iVillage, AOL TV and Moviefone, Parents.com, and worked as an in-house editor for ParentsConnect.com and TimeOutKids.com. As a performer, she's appeared on many downtown stages (sometimes even for pay!), a couple of obscure films and TV shows, and The Maury Povich Show as a female drag queen. She's also the founder of Hot Mama Burlesque, the world's only all-moms burlesque show. After being the NYC editor from March 2011-March 2015, she is now happy to just be a blogger as she pursues additional writing opportunities.
