Best Beach Playgrounds in the Hamptons and North Fork

Summer is here and that means plenty of time for fun in the sun.

The East End of Long Island offers a number of beaches for kids to romp in the sand and splash in the waves. Hither Hills State Park — Montauk
165 Old Montauk Highway​
Hither Hills State Park has a playground, two volleyball courts, sand chairs, a general store, two picnic areas, as well as 2 miles of oceanfront. The park is open Monday through Friday from sunrise to sunset. Cost: $10 per car.

Meschutt County Park — Hampton Bays
Canal Road and Old North Highway
The calm waters of this low-key beach on Peconic Bay are well-suited for families with little ones. The concession stand offers everything from burgers to ice cream, and there is a playground for kids with slides, climbing bars, and more. Cost: $9 per car with Suffolk County Green Key.

Mitchell Park — Greenport
​Front Street
This beautiful park on Greenport's marina is a must-see for families. Enjoy the restaurants and shops in the harbor and finish the day with a ride on the antique carousel. A small beach sits a few hundred yards west of the carousel, near the Shelter Island Ferry terminal. FREE; $2 per ride for the carousel.

Orient Beach State Park — Orient

Orient Beach State Park features a playground overlooking the calm waters of Gardiners Bay, as well as a pavilion, gazebo, hiking trails, and comfort station. There is also a concession stand. The park is open from 10am to 6pm every day. Cost: $10 per car.

South Jamesport Beach Park — South Jamesport
Peconic Bay Boulevard
The South Jamesport Beach Park boasts a playground, as well as tennis and basketball courts, a gazebo, and a snack hut. The park is open sunrise to 10 pm. The parking lot is by town permit only.

Wildwood State Park — Wading River
790 Hulse Landing Road​
Wildwood State Park, which overlooks Long Island Sound, features several play areas for kids, as well as a picnic area, hiking trails, and a concession stand. The park is open Monday through Friday from 10am to 5:30pm. Cost: $10 per car.
