Wild Winter February Break Program at Lachat Town Farm
- see all dates
Winter is here! Ready or not, creatures big and small must withstand the most unforgiving season on the planet. While some have the opportunity to migrate to warmer regions, others must find ways to adapt to harsh conditions. This February break, students in grades K-5 are invited to Lachat for a week-long nature immersion program, dedicated to studying the way wildlife adapts to the cold weather.
We will cover topics such as hibernation, winter foraging, animal tracks and signs, survival strategies, and winter birding.
This program is a fun-filled blend of learning, adventure, and hands-on activities, all aimed at nurturing a love for the natural world in a safe, engaging environment. Children will go on nature walks, play on Seth's Wilderness Playground, cook over the campfire, play games, create craft projects, and more.
Wild Winter will be held predominantly outdoors, and participants should come prepared with snowpants, jackets, waterproof boots, warm layered clothing, hats, and gloves. They should also pack lunch and a refillable water bottle. The Offutt Center will be used as needed for a break from the elements.
