Free Play Area Opens at Cross County Shopping Center
Last week, Cross County Shopping Center in Yonkers opened a brand-new, free play area, the centerpiece of which is the area's first Luckey Climber.
The outdoor climbing structure—part jungle gym, part work of art—was designed by Hartford, CT–based "kid architect" Spencer Luckey, whose distinctive climbers can be found in public spaces and private institutions around the world, including Liberty Science Center in Newark, NJ; The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia; and the Long Island Children's Museum in Garden City, NY.

Luckey Climbers are colorful, multilevel, sculptural structures that are designed to encourage creative play while challenging kids to problem-solve and think spatially. Cross County's climber stands about 16 feet tall and is made of green and blue molded plastic climbing pads suspended by steel pipes and cables. The whole thing is surrounded by netting and covered by a canopy.
While kids climb, parents can enjoy colorful new seating and complimentary charging stations.
The Cross County play area is located near Old Navy and will be open during mall hours. It will remain open for the season through December 31, 2018.
