Monkey Makes Mischief in Heaven, a Puppet Show
Puppeteer Margaret Moody presents this lively episode of the Chinese epic Journey to the West with traditional Taiwanese hand puppets and choreography.
Margaret Moody studied Bu Dai Xi (‘cloth bag theater’) style puppetry with the I Wan Jan Traditional Hand Puppet Troupe in Taiwan in the 1980s. She loves the acrobatic flourishes of Bu Dai Xi as well as the subtle gestures that reveal a puppet’s personality. Her solo performances include elements of the Bu Dai Xi style, which is traditionally performed by 2 puppeteers who are accompanied by a drummer and several more instrumentalists. Margaret performs in schools, arts centers, libraries and private events in New England.
Monkey Makes Mischief in Heaven is the first performance in February’s Puppet Pop-up at Artbeat in Arlington.
