Pine Street Concessions to Open Soon in New Canaan

Think food courts are only filled with greasy slices of pizza, French fries and General Tso’s chicken? Think again. Swap out those dirty tables and bland grouping of substandard eateries for something better. Something focused on artisanal and authentic cooking, superstar chefs and, gasp, al fresco dining.

Enter: the food hall.

Expected to hit the Fairfield County scene in just a few short months, Pine Street Concessions, a new gourmet food court currently under construction in downtown New Canaan will offer organic, locally-sourced cuisine in a family-friendly atmosphere.

If you've never been to a food hall, you really need to check one out. Picture an upscale food court, tailor made with high-end food offerings crafted by local chefs. What's not to love? In fact, more than 100 food halls are expected to hit the American scene between now and the end of 2019.

Slated to open in late Spring, Pine Street Concessions will feature the culinary expertise of artisan chefs, each with their own kitchen and retail counter space. There will be a shared space with tables for dining in, as well as a tables outside. Takeout will also be available. And, menus are sure to satisfy both kids and adults, with wood-fired pizza and traditional Ramen noodles, nutrient-rich grain bowls and freshly prepared salad.

The organic eatery will serve as a showcase for three artisanal chefs serving traditional wood-oven Italian food, class Asian street fare like steamed buns and chicken wings and organic California-inspired eats. A seasonal Farmers Market Table, designed for two farmers’ market-style vendors to set up shop on a rotating basis, will offer cheese, bread, flowers, and other market staples. I mean, what can really be better than grabbing a veggie stir fry, avocado toast and a slice of pizza all under one roof and with your kiddos to boot.

This Grand Central-style marketplace is part of an ongoing renaissance of sorts on Pine Street, which is book-ended at one end by Zumbach’s Gourmet Coffee and Oxygen Fitness on the other. The widely anticipated food hall will be opening its doors in late spring at 75 Pine Street in New Canaan.

And, lucky for you, there is plenty to do with your kiddos nearby after grabbing lunch at Pine Street Concessions. Mead Memorial Park is a 24 acre park near the intersection of Mead and Park Streets. Boasting New Canaan’s largest public playground, four baseball fields and a lovely pond housing numerous duck and geese families, Mead Park is a prime venue to get your kids outside after filling up on Pine Street goodies. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, check out the New Canaan Toy Store on Park Street, the oldest toy store in New England in business for more than 80 years offering an impressive collection of classic toys (tucked into every nook and cranny in the store.) Or, head to the adorable New Canaan Playhouse on Elm Street for an afternoon movie.
