MLK Day of Service: Trail Clean-Up in Franklin Canyon

In honor of the 25th Anniversary of MLK Day of Service, the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area is offering two restoration events -  one at Franklin Canyon and the other at Rancho Sierra Vista/ Satwiwa. Both events require an RSVP.

Wear hiking attire, bring water/resuable water bottle, sunscreen, and a sun hat. 

Franklin Canyon at Sooky Goldman Nature Center
8:30 am – 9am: Check in and light breakfast.
9am – 12 noon: Various restoration activities such as trail widening, tree/ shrub trimming, and invasive species removal. 

Park at the main parking lot and meet at the Nature Center. Parking will be free during the volunteer event.

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday marks the 25th anniversary of the Day of Service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. Observed each year as “a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.
