Musco Center’s Heartbeat of Mexico is a free family festival filled with performances and activities celebrating Mexican and Mexican-American culture and arts.The event features live performances on two stages, community organizations, live painting, and a chalk art contest, as well as a beer garden and crafts.

 

The day starts with an Aztec Blessing Ceremony by Kalpulli Hueyatl Wanawna, followed by traditional music by Chapman University’s Mariachi Panteras and Santa Ana High School's Mariachi Los Santos, cumbia punk bands Los Waraperos and Gabriela Penka, and dance performances by El Sol Academy, Relámpago del Cielo, and Tecnica Arte y Folklore. 

Guests can learn about the symbolism of the Aztec Calendar, do an "Ojos de Dios" craft activity, learn textileria, and watch artists paint live.  Plus, everyone can participate in the chalk art contest and the local loteria themed painting contest.

Other fun includes dance contests, DJ sets, and the chance to connect with community organizations such as the Bowers Museum and the Frida Cinema.
