Long Island Kids' Activities January 11 & 12: Saltwater Stories, Flying Model Competition, Rubber Duckie Party

This weekend, head to the Long Island Children’s Museum to learn about maritime culture on Long Island, and to enjoy an interactive performance with Lena and the Happy Clam Band. In the mood to get crafty? Learn how to draw like a master at The Heckscher Museum of Art, and create abstract watercolor paintings at Gallery North. For those who enjoy nature, head to the South Fork Natural History Museum & Nature Center. Learn how animals are fed, or go on a walk to observe seals. Also on tap: Flying Model Competition at the Cradle of Aviation Museum, and Rubber Duckie Party at The Whaling Museum & Education Center. Saltwater Stories: Catch The Spirit - Garden City
Explore the maritime culture of Long Island at the Long Island Children’s Museum. Folk artists discuss the ways of life that shape the cultural and economic development of Long Island and animals that inhabit our waterways.
The Happy Clam Show - Garden City
This performance combines music with movement and games. At the Long Island Children’s Museum, listen to songs from the Happy As Clams album, along with nautical songs.

Winnie The Pooh - Elmont
Pooh, Piglet, Kanga, Eeyore, Tigger, and Roo hit the stage at the Broad Hollow Elmont. Watch as they get into trouble trying to trap a Heffalump and celebrate Eeyore's birthday.
Flying Model Competition - Garden City
Teams build a balsa wood airplane from a kit at the Cradle of Aviation Museum. Museum docents and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics discuss aerodynamics and model building. The competition consists of flying tasks requiring team effort and expertise in flying agility and landing.
ArtVentures: Weaving Watercolors - Setauket
Using the color wheel as inspiration, create two abstract watercolor paintings at Gallery North. Weave the paintings together to create a multi-panel, stitched creation.
Animal Feeding Time - Bridgehampton
At the South Fork Natural History Museum & Nature Center, there are a variety of animal visitors, from frogs and turtles, to crabs and sea stars. Learn about how these animals are fed, their diets, and feeding strategies.
Shabbat Stop - East Hills
Enjoy playtime, food, music, art, and cooking at the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center.

Rubber Duckie Party - Cold Spring Harbor
Celebrate the favorite bath time toy with games, stories, and crafts at The Whaling Museum & Education Center. Make a duckie craft to take home.
Hands On Workshop: Draw Like A Master - Huntington
Artist Tom Sammon demonstrates how to sketch from sculpture at The Heckscher Museum of Art. Develop drawing skills in the tradition of 19th century masters using a variety of drawing materials.
Observing Seals: Family Walk - Bridgehampton
Meet at the South Fork Natural History Museum & Nature Center to learn why seals come south, and other facts about their lives during this walk through the Seal Haul Out Trail in Montauk. Expect to see harbor seals, and an occasional gray seal.
