Our favorite Christmas tree farms near Chicago turn picking out a tree into a memorable holiday adventure. Many of these adorable Christmas tree farms near Chicago also have festive treats, gift shops, and hayrides out to the fields. Whether you’re looking to grab one that’s pre-cut, fresh from the farm, or to cut-your-own Christmas tree, this list has them all. While many of the farms offer saws and twine to cut and transport your tree, but you’re also welcome to bring your own to help avoid lines and keep the wait times with little ones to a minimum.  A few farms, noted below are also pet friendly.

Christmas Tree Farms Near Chicago in the Northern / Northwest Suburbs

1. Richardson Christmas Tree Farm – Spring Grove

Dog-friendly; free hot drinks

Richardson Christmas Tree Farm boasts over 50,000 trees across 75 acres, so you’re bound to find that special tree. On the weekend, you can hop on one of their free wagons to get out to the fields to cut-your-own Christmas tree. You can walk or wagon your tree back to the sales barn, where it’s tagged, and plastic-wrapped for you to transport home. You’ll also find fresh, homemade donuts, wreaths, and decorations to take home. 

2. Williams Tree Farm – Rockton

Williams Tree Farm in Rockton, Illinois has been offering cut-your-own Christmas trees and pre-cut trees near Chicago for over 70 years. They have several fields offering different tree varieties. Before or after you’ve selected that perfect tree, there’s also a play tractor station, a children’s farm, and a kiddie train to enjoy. Inside, you can warm up at the Cabin Café, gift shop, or candy corner. 

3. Ben’s Christmas Tree Farm – Harvard

Ben’s Christmas Tree Farm has thousands of trees in eight varieties. These organically-grown trees range from six to twelve feet tall. You can walk to the fields or choose from a horse-drawn or tractor-pulled wagon on select weekends. You may also get a surprise visit from Santa. In addition to the cut-your-own Christmas trees, you can also visit farm animals. There are 55 acres of fun to enjoy. Note that to maintain a sustainable crop of trees, Ben's will only be open two weekends this year: November 24-26 and December 2-3.

4. Conifera Tree Farm Harvard

Free tree shaking and balking

A relative newcomer to the Christmas tree farm business, Conifera Tree Farm has 20 acres of trees planted over the last seven years. The 2023 selection includes 12-18 foot Spruce trees and a variety of trees in the five- to six-foot range. Additional pre-cut trees are brought in from a partner farm in Wisconsin. You can enjoy refreshments including hot chocolate and homemade cookies while you wait.

5. Moehling Christmas Tree Farm – Woodstock

Cash or check only; byo twine; free hot drinks

Moehling Christmas Tree Farm in Woodstock looks straight out of a Christmas card. You can cut your own Christmas tree or they will cut it for you for an additional fee. Farm helpers are on hand to assist you with tying your tree to your car, but they ask that you bring your own twine. Inside, you can cozy up and shop their gift shop filled with handmade goods from local vendors. 

6. Ziegler Christmas Tree Farm – Elgin

Dog-friendly

Ziegler Christmas Tree Farm in Elgin offers four different varieties of trees. You’re able to cut your own Christmas tree at this family-owned staple. In 2023, the farm will be open by appointment only, so call ahead to make a reservation for a tree.

7. Anderson Tree Farm – Plainfield

Anderson Tree Farm has a wide variety of trees you can pick up or cut on your own. As a working farm, the whole family will enjoy seeing horses and live animals grazing outside. After you choose your tree, there are helpers on-hand to assist you with roping and wrapping your tree to-go.

8. Abbey Farms – Aurora

Saws available; free shaking and roping of tree

Abbey Farms in Batavia offers both pre-cut and cut-your-own Christmas trees. Check their website to make a free time slot reservation. Once you’re there, you’re given a map of all the open tree fields letting you know where each tree variety is located. Take a free wagon ride or venture out on a walk through the fields. Warm up in the pine tree café or have drinks on the patio. 

9. Lee's Trees Lily Lake

Pet-friendly

If you're looking for a tree under eight feet, and a small-farm experience, Lee's Trees is the place for you. The farm is only 14 acres, and it allows families to choose and harvest their own Scotch pine, White pine, Canaan fir, Fraser fir, Balsam fir, or Norway spruce between four and eight feet tall. Additional pre-cut trees are brought in from its sister farm in Wisconsin.

10. Superior Evergreens – Belmont Terrace

Delivery available anywhere in Chicago

Shop for a tree online, call to reserve a tree of a specified size, or come out to the city's biggest tree lot via bus, car, or cab to select one in person. You can even take home an adorable cedar moose decoration or some holiday swag. We can't guarantee they'll let you take an 8-foot tree on the Cumberland bus, though.

11. Kringle’s Tree Factory – New Lennox

Kringle’s Tree Factory offers pre-cut trees, brought in fresh from Michigan daily throughout the season. If you aren’t able to transport your tree home, they also offer local delivery for a fee. On Saturdays, you may also see a surprise visit from Santa. 

12. Gorman Tree Farm Monee

Free shaking and netting of tree

This far south suburban tree farm offers Scotch Pine, White Pine, Douglas Fir, and Fraser Fir trees. Bundle up and sip on some warm apple cider while you select and cut your own tree. You can also pick up wreaths, garland and handmade crafts here. Gorman's is one of just a few farms open daily until 7 p.m. and lit, so you can find your tree even after work on a weekday.

13. Tammen Treeberry Farm Wilmington

Blueberry season is over and Christmas tree season has begun at this Will County farm. Select any Scotch Pine, White Pine, Douglas Fir, Fraser Fir, or Canaan Fir for just $65. At 165 acres, Tammen Treeberry Farm has lots of trees to choose from. The farm plants multiple trees for each one harvested.
