The Getty Center and its sister museum, the Getty Villa, stand out among our favorite destinations, in no small part based on their stunning architecture, exquisite gardens, and breathtaking views.
And lest we forget, both institutions are first and foremost home to art and antiquities, with collections ranging from ancient sculptures and artifacts to manuscripts from the Middle Ages, to works by artists on the cutting edge of modern culture.
The Getty Center sits atop a hill with panoramic views of LA to the coast. Kids love rolling on the grassy lawns, and the winding Central Garden is ripe for exploration.
Greek and Roman antiquities are housed at the Getty Villa, a re-created Roman country home overlooking the ocean in Pacific Palisades. Favorite outdoor spots include the Outer Peristyle's reflecting pool and the Herb Garden.
Admission to both museums is free.
