Linkin B'logs: Unkindergarten, Babysitting Co-ops, Finger Politics and More
10/19/08
- By Nina
Anti-schoolers take on “unkindergarten". Lot's to think about in this NY Times article about a community of like-minded NYC parents who are opting out of formal kindergarten education which is why it's creating a lot of buzz on the neighborhood boards and mommy blogs.
Economy 101. Slate reprints the recent Nobel Prize winner Paul Krugman's article where he beautifully describes what is happening in our economy using the model of a babysitting co-op. For anyone interested in starting a babysitting co-op, find your crew and sign up for babysitter exchange, a free website that keeps track of all your hours. I've been doing it with a bunch of friends for a while and it works great.
Brangelina's Boobies. Parent Dish dishes on the cover photo of Angelina breastfeeding which is apparently causing some controversy. Get over it people! And to see the pretty picture which was taken by Brad, check out the W Magazine site, though be warned, you can't read the article.
More D. New guidelines have been released on the amount of Vitamin D that children have, it's more than they previously thought - read about it or listen to this report on NPR.
Finger Politics. The debates may be over but with these finger puppets the fun has just begun! Whip Up shows where you can get patterns to crochet these presidential finger puppets - doesn't the McCain one really look like him?

Did you catch Sarah Palin on SNL? Must admit she was pretty funny. But, what was absolutely hysterical was the super pregnant Amy Pohler rapping, it's almost as if pregnancy has made her even more funny. Hmm, I think it had the opposite effect on me. In other news, there is a great article in the Times this week on anti-schoolers, Nobel Prize winner Paul Krugman explains the economy using the example of babysitting co-ops, reports advise more vitamin D for kids, Brangelina champions public breast feeding (sort of) and more.

And, in case you missed it, go to the SNL site to watch Pohler and Palin...
