A Night at the Movies: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954, 127 min)
Bowers Museum screens the 1954 Disney live action classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea starring Kirk Douglas, Peter Lorre and James Mason.
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was Walt Disney’s first fully live action big budgeted film. Disney had to build additional soundstages at his studio in Burbank and had to find qualified technicians behind the camera with experience shooting big set pieces for a non-animated film. The film had to invent and design diving suits for the crew and actors to shoot in the waters of the Bahamas.
A Night at the Movies presents classic films from the 1930s–1970s with engaging discussions led by film expert Theo Siegel. The pre-show discussion offers a glimpse behind-the-scenes to learn about everything from script production to casting, and discover why some films broke the box office while others flopped.
A Night at the Movies is held in the air-conditioned, state-of-the-art Norma Kershaw Auditorium.
