LA will once again be plunged into darkness as the moon hides from the sun in the Earth's shadow.  It's a total lunar eclipse this time, but fair warning, it's way after bedtime!

The Earth starts to cast a shadow at 12:02am on the evening of November 8, the eclipse first starts at 1:09am.  The totality begins at 2:17am and ends at 3:42am; (at this point the moon will appear to be reddish in color).  The partial eclipse is over by 4:49am; the penumbral eclipse ends at 5:50am.  (All times Pacific).

The Griffith Observatory is hosting an online broadcast from Midnight - 6am PST.(Griffith Park will not be open during the broadcast, and there will be no onsite viewing).  The Observatory will stream the eclipse live online, weather permitting.

NOTE: If skies are clear, the eclipse should be visible to the unaided eye from anywhere in southern California. It is safe to view a lunar eclipse without any eye protection. You do not need a telescope to see a lunar eclipse. Just go outside and look up to the south.
