Drop-in Tactile Filmmaking Workshop
The Academy Museum hosts a Drop-In Tactile Filmmaking Workshop inspired by its new exhibition Color in Motion: Chromatic Explorations of Cinema.
Drawing inspiration from early cinema techniques like hand painting frames and experimenting with animating directly on celluloid film, participants create their own vibrant moving-image collages using simple materials like marker, tape, pushpins, paint, and ink.
At the end of the workshop, the individual strips of film are spliced together and screened through a 16mm film projector, bringing together a community-created and truly collaborative film.
Additional family-friendly activities include keychain making with celluloid film strips.
Schedule:
10:30am - 2:30pm:Tactile Filmmaking Workshop
3pm: Screening of the finished film
This event is held in the Academy Museum’s Tea Room.
All workshops are free with museum admission and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Museum admission is free for youths ages 17 and under.
