Spring Break Activities at Garvies Point Museum
The Garvies Point Museum & Preserve hosts a jam-packed schedule of family-friendly fun during spring break, with a variety of programs like nature walks, nature-inspired crafts, bird-watching expeditions, wildlife explorations, and more; no two days are alike.
Saturday, March 27
FOREST FORENSICS & WILD WEATHER WALK 11am, 1pm, 3pm
Learn how to read the landscape plus how does weather affect trees and our preserve? See some interesting signs of severe weather including windthrow, lightning, hurricanes and more! Ages 7+.
MAKE YOUR OWN THERMOMETER CRAFT 10am-4pm, on the ½ hour
Using materials you can find at home, make your own thermometer to keep track of temperature changes!

LIFE AT THE POND 11am, 1pm, 3pm
The vernal pond is just beginning to come alive again after wintertime! With buckets, nets, and magnifiers, dip into the world of the pond. Hands-on, engaging, educational program, suitable for ages 5+. Sneakers recommended.
ANIMAL SAND-ART CRAFT 10am – 4pm, on the ½ hour

Wednesday, March 31
NATURE EXPLORER WALK 11am, 1pm, 3pm
Be a nature detective! On this walk investigate and explore the spring woodland and meadow environments and the living things (plants and animals!) that call these communities home. Ages 5+.
FOREST MOBILE CRAFT 10am – 4pm, on the ½ hour
Design a beautiful mobile using the wonders of nature!

Thursday, April 1
BIRD-WATCHING WALK 11am, 1pm, 3pm
Learn all about birds as we explore a variety of habitats plus how to use binoculars and with an introduction to “field marks”. Binoculars provided, feel free to bring your own. Ages 5+.
BIRD-HOUSE CRAFT 10am-4pm, on the ½ hour
Make a unique bird house out of recycled materials to observe one of nature’s most beautiful events.

Friday, April 2
DISCOVERING DINOSAURS 11am, 1pm, 3pm
Learn fascinating facts about dinosaurs! How do we know about them and what makes them special? Are dinosaurs alive today? Find out plus show off your own dinosaur knowledge! Ages 4+
COELOPHYSIS photo op! Find life size Coelophysis in the exhibit hall and take some photos with him!
CLAY FOSSIL IMPRESSIONS CRAFT 10am-4pm, on the ½ hour
Using self-hardening clay, make a cool “fossil” keepsake. $5/participant, in addition to museum admission.

Saturday, April 3
BEACH EXPLORATION WALK 11am, 1pm, 3pm
Explore the shoreline for snails, mussels, crabs and more! Learn how they adapt to survive in the harsh environment of the coastal shoreline. Hands-on program, exciting and educational for people of all ages! Sneakers recommended.
SAND-CASTING CRAFT 10am - 4pm, on the ½ hour Make a beautiful keepsake of the beach!

NOTE: Masks are required for ages 4 and older to enter the museum and during programs, crafts, and films. All programs, crafts, and films are included with museum admission unless otherwise noted. Space is limited for programs! Call ahead to reserve. Crafts are offered every half-hour from 10am-4pm unless otherwise noted. Sign up in advance or at the door for a half-hour time slot. Crafts are offered on the outer covered deck, weather permitting. If inclement weather, crafts will be indoors with social distancing in place.
